It's a 15'. Anyone in here run a 15 in the trunk? A guy from Cookville, Tn is going to help build a box. ( http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...iac%20Firebird ). I need to know what size of an amp to get to power this. I kinda need an cheap one! Thanks
It's really gonna depend on the box design. If it's going in a large ported box, it will not handle a ton of power...... a small sealed box and it will probably handle double rated power. A cheap but still quality amp is going to be the JBL BP600.1 $175 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1950218699
Well i want to use ALL of the trunk. Its a convertable so i don't know how many cubic feet i have, but the guy who's helping me build it is going to measure it and see. As i said, I want to make a box that uses the entire trunk with a groove in the top to place the amp in it. As for the freq. I have no idea really. i've read a bunch of people talk about the "magic of 25" so mabey around 25hz?
If you are going for all out SPL.... then you'll want to tune high. Say around 50-55Hz. But this will sound like cr@p with normal music and you may damage the sub without a subsonic filter. If this is still a daily driver that you want to get loud.... then tune to around 35Hz. If you are going for all out SQ, then around 25-28Hz.
The sub has a hard time playing frequencies below tuned freq. Infact, if you play them hard below tuned freq. you will cause the driver to unload..... and then..... exploded! That's where a subsonic filter comes in handy. To filter out the low low frequencies.
I'm sorry I recommended the 600.1. It will not fit your needs well. I mis-read Adire's specs. If you are STUCK on going with only 1 tempest them try the JBL BP1200.1 THAT one WILL give you about 650WRMS at full tilt!! And this time I'm sure!! :D But I really recommend chosing a different configuration for subwoofers. Try two Shivas! Then you will be able to run at 2 ohm. Then you could get the 600.1 and give em' 300WRMS a piece!!!!! Which should be plenty in a large ported box such as yours.
How are you going to have enough airspace? I have about 2.5 cubes ported and it seems to take about half the trunk(where that ledge thingy is to almost the top of the hatch). You could use the rest, but then box design gets extremely complicated. At least the way my friends and I figured it. If you're going for all out SPL, I would say the back seat. But then again, for competing I believe it would put you into extreme class I think? You would be running against the big boys. 15" seems kinda big for our cars. I hit a 140.1 with one ported Lanzar DC-12D 12" I need to lengthen the port a few more inches and I think I could get a few more DB out of it. I could go alot louder, but buy-bye daily ground pounder and hello one note wonder :( . I have thought about going with a L7. I saw a Camaro hit a 148.7 with just one
As for you amp, maybe a Hifonics Hecules. I think don't quote me, it has something like 1000RMS and 1500Max. Not 100% sure.
Good luck and post pics when your done. I would love to see how you worked it out.

That will lower your tuning frequency and smooth your response. Better SQ.... lower SPL numbers....
He's got enough room.....just wait till I finish my new set-up!!! :D Although I still think he should consider a different sub..... Dual 8 ohm coils are giving him a hard time.
I've had my eye on the Tempest for a while now. I almost bought one this summer. I just suddenly got the urge for more bass. I don't use my trunk anyway so i figure when not use it all on one big sub.

I think I'm tuned a little to high. I think it was something around 60hz, I want to be somewhere around 55hz.
