  • Getting A Stealth Sub, Is This A CHEAP Deal??

This guy called Crazy Larry(I know :D ) is giving me a Fosgate Stealth enclosure with carpet for $149 bucks. How much should I expect for one of these on regular prices??

I'm going to get a 10w6 for it. How big of an amp do I need?? This guy at my work is selling a Fosgate 250 watt amp for 60 bucks to me, don't look that nice but its cheap. Will this push the 10w6 hard enough?

I'm also considering the MTX5000 sub. I will be listening to both tomorrow at the Good Guys to make sure which one is more worth it. Any opinions on MTX???

    Thx
    Ed

I cant tell you anything about the JL sub but I can tell you a little about MTX. I didnt realize MTX had a 5000 sub, unless its an older model?? I have an MTX 6000 sub that came in the custom enclosure for our cars. Its a decent sub to start out with. I would like to upgrade to something better when I get the money though. Ive already blown one 6000 sub sending it around 250-300 watts. Had to get it replaced through warranty. I think it can only hold 250 watts though. Ive had the replacement for a few months now and havent had any problems. Its decent if its tuned right. The only complaint I have is on songs with double-bass the sub doesnt retract(?) fast enough so it gets kind of muddy. Could be the way I have it tuned though. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Also Im not sure about that Fosgate box your talking about but you can get a JL Vantage box that fits our cars perfectly for around 100 bucks used. You just have to find one for sale on the boards. It isnt carpeted but you can do it yourself for about 5 bucks.

make sure the rockford can take a 3 ohm load. i'm guessing you would put the DVCs in parallel.

$149 is an OK price. Just make sure to inspect it real well for cracks or leaks. But you can get a new one for around that. $60 for that amp is a good deal. The 10W6 should be able to take it.

I was referring to the controls on the amp he will use. My meaning of tuning is setting all the bass boost, gains and crossovers right. The way that I blew my first MTX sub was because I had the gain and bass boost set way too high. It sounded pretty good but it blew as soon as I put a big bass song in. Didnt mean to confuse anyone. JL 10W6 is good to 300 watts. But if it's "clean" power, you can push much more than that. Watts don't kill speakers, distortion does! PPI makes a great combo to the JL line of speakers.

As for sealed, that would depend on your taste in music and sound. For the "average" listener, sealed is fine. If your into "feeling" your music, you may want to consider something custom and ported.

It's a brand spankin' new enclosure. Good Guys is selling the 10w6 Stealth for $399. What's the cost of the 10w6 by itself supposed to be?? What about a 10" MTX???

Also, I don't care for feeling the bass...just want more than factory. Will a 10w3 suffice?? How many watts is the 10w3??

                thx

Sorry again for the confusion, thats true. Another reason I shouldnt stick with the monsoon HU since it is known to clip alot.
