I'm thinkin of installing a ported box. My first question is should I put the ports on the middle or outside of the subs?? how big should the ports be to tune to 32hz in a 1.5 cubic feet box?? how much displacement wil the ports be???should I have a wall in between them (like I have now) to seperate them or are those just for sealed boxes??

I suggest you download WinISD Pro from www.linearteam.org If you have any questions about the program, lemme know. I'm pretty good at it. It's actually a lot more user friendly that it might look.

No, but you can input the specs from any subwoofer into the database. Go to the edit database function. Then type in all the specs and save. Then click on new project and pick the Alpine Type-R. You can get all the specs on-line from www.alpine1.com
As far as where you should put your port, it depends. I bet once you get in to WinISD and start poking around you'll answer your own question. Also, since we f-body guys are pressed for space, one big port is better then multiple smaller ports. And if the woofers are going to be powered off the same amp, and they are the same age, then no divider is needed.

True, but in order to keep the middle of a box from flexing, it's sometimes necessary to put a divider in. I normally try to keep the chambers of any box I build less than 18 or 20 inches wide. Anything over that gets a divider. Of course, once a box is built, it's hard to go back and put a divider in it. I can see you trying to stick a divider in thru a speaker hole
Also, those programs won't tell you where to place the port--just size and length. In an f-body, you'll have to put the ports wherever you have room--which can be difficult sometimes. The exact placement isn't all that critical. Although, there are some general guidelines you should be aware of. As for their the displacement, once you know the diameter and length you're goint to be using, you should be able to calculate displacement using a simple PI formula :D
well Thats my problem. I logged in to alpine's techcenter a while ago, and they had nothin on the whole techcenter site about the type r's (just info on older models). I have a little bit of the info from the application guide that came with the subs, but its not alot, and i dunno if it'll be enough to be perfectly accurate. As far as my box, its about 35" wide, so I guess I do need a divider. anybody know all of the specs for the SWR-1241D's? Thanks alot for the help.
If you have a divider, you're gonna have to have two ports.... obviously. That's a lot of extra room. And I figured he'd figure out where to place the ports once he got into WinISD and seen how long they have to be.
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
