  • ID & ED side-by-side comparison

I did a side-by-side comparison of these two units today. They were each mounted in a 0.75 ft^3 enclosure and were fed about 300W by an Inifity Beta Digital 100 amp.

For what it's worth here's my opinion -- The EDesigns sub wins hands down:

    1) To my ear, the IDQ sounds like a "one-note sub" whereas the ED sounded a lot more musical. They both sound tight down deep, but the ED definitely sounded better in the 40-80Hz range.

    2) The ED was more efficient too -- it was easily making my hatch rattle more that the IDQ at any given volume. (gotta work on that. :( )

    3) The ED has a three year warranty; IDQ is on a one year plan. See those "stretch marks" on the IDQ sub? It started to blister right around the time the warranty ended - after 12 months of moderate use.

    4) Price? That particular ED model goes for about half of what the IDQ goes for. The IDQ series is ID's mid-range line of drivers, the k series is ED's entry-level line of drivers. I'm not really comparing apples to apples here, but EDesigns is definitely holding their own here.

    5) Looks? Well now we're getting silly, but I hate gaudy cones and logos. <coughSonycoughMTXcouchKicker> The ED looks nice behind my grills. It's definitely a sleeper.

They're both great drivers for small enclosures, but guess which one's getting my vote? Anyone care to disagree?

ED is a nice sub. I got to try to break the 'cone' of one, and couldnt do it for ****. there is NO flex at all

nice 'cone', although ive never heard it in action.

They are both real nice subs but I also lean toward the ED over the ID (ive heard the same models in 10" versions) in fact if ED's werent on back order when I got my 10w6v2's I probly would have went with them myself.

I will soon be installing an IDMAX 12" in my friends car.

I haven't compared the comparable ED with the IDMAX, but I plan on buying an ED 12" for my car.

I'll let you know the differences between the two best models of the two brands.

        Should be interesting!
