Hey guys, I'm just working on finishing up my subwoofer setup and I took a trip to circuit city yesterday. I've got the unloaded thunderform box on the way, all I need now is the sub. I've got it down to either a 10" alpine type-e or a 10" alpine type-r. Everyone has told me that the type-r will not fit in the thunderform box due to it's huge voice coils. So I think I'll be geting the type-e, it really impressed me. All I'm wondering is that are these guys right when they say the type-r won't fit in the box? Have any of you guys done it before?

Ok. Whoever, told you that is the moron. The size of the woofers voice coils has nothing to do with it. I'm not 100% sure it will fit in the thunderform, but I know the Type-R will fit in subthump's stealth box. Check out the web and see if you can find the thunderform's mounting depth.
what I meant was that the depth of the type r was too much for the box. According to the install guys at circuit city, the box isn't deep enough for the speaker. The thunderform is around 12" deep I believe, so I really didn't see the type-r causing trouble, it looked to be 9-10" deep at best.
Heres the dimensions of the thunderform
Dimensions: 12.125" x 17.125" x 12.125"
plus the alpine is only an inch deeper than the thuder 6000 that comes in there originally. btw: Ian the 10 and 12 W7's are 3ohm SVC's the only DVC W7 is the 13w7 which is dual 1.5ohm. However you are correct about the w7's not fitting in the thunderform (you would need a custom figerglass enclosure with a spacer ring).

so based on the specs, I shouldn't have any problem geting they type-r into the thunderform box? They kept telling me it couldn't fit at circuit city, but based on the depth of the box I dont understand where they were coming from.
Well I was told many times that my 10w6v2 couldnt fit in the mtx box...but im pretty sure thats true due to the diameter of the manget...I think that Steve (Megabass) could probly give you the most accurate answer.

No problem man. Oh and btw: ikesound.com has got the type r's for 94.50 with a year warranty.

you'll be fine with the subs in the box. they probably wanted to tell you it wouldnt fit because Circuit City staff is on comission, and they figured they could try to tell you that you needed something 'more expensive' to actually fit.
