• Easy? Difficult?

Here's the deal. i want to put an ENTIRELY new system in my camaro. By this i mean removing all 4 6.5" speakers, the factory sub, the HU, AND the wiring harness.....(so it can be used in another car). BTW it's a Bose system.

I want to replace it with a Sony Xplod CDX-CA700, 4 Xplod 6.5" speakers, 2 10" Xplod subs and an Xplod amp.

My question is..how hard will it be to remove and replace everything? Should i have someone do it for me? or should i just take off a couple days and replace everything myself?

My other question is..how hard will it be to run the wires for the new speakers if i remove the wiring harness for the factory system....

I want to do this because the stupid factory sub doesn't do anything for me. sounds good, i just need more bass than it provides. i want to put some xplod's in because they sound good and match the red of my car :D

First off, I suggest you rethink your choice of Sony products. Their mid-range audio stuff is total crap, except for the co-axials...maybe. You should look into a good Eclipse or Kenwood HU. Maybe some Kicker subs with an Audiobahn or Xtant amp. Sony is not known for their subs or amps, they suck.

That said, you can do it all yourself if you have the knowledge and time. I did it all myself and it took a while because I had to wait for parts, but not much labor is involved really. Just take your time and be careful about what you're doing.

BTW - why do you want to remove the wiring harness? Just buy an aftermarket harness that plugs into the old one, it then plugs into the HU of your choice.

If you're looking for a box for your subs, then I suggest conatacting Steve at www.subthump.com, he has a great reputation. I can vouch for it, excellent quality and good prices!

The main reason i want to remove the wiring harness is so that the sub isn't completely useless. The reason being that if someone without a Bose system in their camaro wanted the Bose system, then they could just use the harness that is in my car now to hook everything up. Mainly because their car may not have the sub hookups. Also the other reason i want to is because the rear two speakers are hooked through the sub. Don't ask me why, but they are. There is a 100watt amp inside the sub and all the wires for the rear speakers are routed through that amp. Thus resulting in that riduculous box having to be there to run the back two speakers, thus my wanting to get rid of the box. See my dilemma? This is the reason i asked how hard it would be to just remove the harness....... :(

Also, i was considering getting the milhouse box from subthump.... :D

Removing the wiring is probably more trouble than its worth. Most of it is run with other wires for completely separate equipment inside the same wireloom. You would need to first remove the wiring from the loom and then from the car. Some areas would be easier than others, but the dash and door speakers would be an absolute pain. I would say look at the factory harness and determine each wire's fucntion, and then make your own for the new car. Removing all the factory stuff would really be a time consuming task.

Definately listen to these guys when they say stay away from sony. Also, don't choose a sub because the color matches your car. Pick one for the specs or how it sounds or hits or it's reputation. Sony's don't have the best reputation 'round here. And if you need a box or have questions, don't hesitate to ask. I know every sub that's being put in the milhouses right now. I can tell you what brands are most common or what seems to work the best.

Agreed. I did all mine myself. ALL of it. Wiring, box, etc. It's not that hard. YES, stay away from sony! They don't call em' Xplodes for no reason! Replacing your door and rear speakers are very easy. I currently have Infinity Kappa's. I like em' but am thinking of getting a pair of Focal comp. It also depends on how much bump you want. If you want a little, get a JL stealth box. I have seen them in action with a JL W0 and was amazed. You can get a JL W0 for under 100 bucks. If you want a lot of bump, get a box from megabass or make one yourself. Try 2 12"s. That should add some serious bump. Let us know what you think.

I would just stay away from the sony head units they sux... But besides there amps there not bad... The Kennwood sugestion let me tell you I use to buy Kennwood but now I can't even give them away to a scrap yard... Look kennwood and sony make good AV systems for in home use but as far as head units both are not the way you want to go... As far as amps no way !!! Stop there no kennwood would be found in eny of my cars they sound good for a while they heat up once and boom you got problems... As far as sony amps never had eny problems with them... I like compition sound and kennwood will never come close... as far as subs go with fos z's series they hit that low note...

But thats my op.. and maybe not everyone elses... I have been working in car audio for about 10 years now and won many events so I just know just a little about audio ... I blow system like they were going out of style... If i get my web site back up Ill show you a pic of my front winshield getting blown out...
