  • New subs, what kind of amp should I get?~~~Decided~~

Ok, I'm either getting two new 12" Kicker Comp VR Dual voice coils and they have 400 RMS(200 each coil) and 800 Peak per sub, or 2 12" MTX 6000 250 RMS 500 Peak each sub.Edited for decision~

    EDIT~~~~~~~~~~MY DECISION~~~~~~~~~~EDIT
Ok, this is what I think I'm gonna get, the two 12" kickers plus the Kenwood 929 1000 watt amp, here are the specs for the amp:

    Key Features:

    stereo, mono or Tri-Way output
    460 watts x 1 in bridged mode
    230 watts x 2 at 2 ohms
requires 4-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
    50-200 Hz low-pass crossover, 18 dB/octave
selectable 0/+6/+12 dB bass boost at 90 Hz
    speaker-level inputs
    4-way protection circuitry
    cooling fan
    signal-to-noise ratio 100 dB

The subs specs are above, so, should I do this? Good subs and amp? I need to know soon cuz im ordering them today, and I'm satisfied with my current kenwood amp and kicker subs, so I think this will be a great upgrade, If I could get a couple of Yes's then I'll go ahead and get them, thanks.

    John

kicker sells their KX800.2 amp, it's got 200x2 (it pushes 400x2 when you wire the sub VC's in parallel). It costs $600 retail, but you can find much cheaper places online!! You could find it for lke 450-500 easy!!

Or Audiobahn has the A2601Q w/ 150x2 for only $490 retail. This amp wil push 210W x 2 when you wire the subs in parallel at 2ohms!

Or how abou the Rockford Fosgate Punch400S that will push 200Wx2 at 2ohms with the VC's wired in parallel!

About your subs, don't go with the MTX 6000. I think you'd be better off getting the kicker, even though I haven't heard those speakers personally. I have 3 10" MTX 6000 subs, and planning to switch them with JL W3's sometime in the future, cuz I'm not too happy with the MTX's. They're decent for the price, but you'd be happier with the kicker's.

Yeah, I think im going with the kickers, plus they have a little more power to them and I like the regular comps I have right now. I thought about getting a 929 Kenwood 1000w amp for the kickers, I found a place that sells it 230 shipped, think it would be good for the kickers.

What do you think about this amp?

          Sony Amp

I know sony's not to good when it comes to car audio, but how good are their amps? This one is 1000 watts and I think it will go good with the kickers(if these are bad amps, let me know, as you can tell I don't know too much about amps).

I'd stay away from the sony amp. You can get a JBL 1200.1 off ebay for under $300 shipped. It will put out over 1200 watts and handle a 1 ohm mono load. Which brings me to my next question, The kickers are dual VC... dual 2 ohm? Dual 4 ohm? If they are 2 you will be able to get a 2 ohm load. 1200 watts from the JBL. If they are dual 4 ohm, you can get a 1 ohm load and get 1200 watts from the JBL. As you can see, it doesn't make a difference with that amp but it will with many others as they are not 1 ohm mono stable. (Kenwood, Sony) I don't think they Kickers can handle quite that much power but it's always good to have some extra slack, and if it's for near the same price why not!

Well, I already ordered all the stuff, I figure having 1000 watts would be good for extra slack to incase I cann't push them that high. I should get the stuff in by the end of this week, Oh yeah, thier 4 ohm subs.

BTW, I have two 3month old 12" Kicker Comps and a 1 month old 350watt Kenwood amp I'm selling for 200 plus shipping if anyone is interested, im trying to get my sister to buy them for replacing her crappy california subs and profile amp, but she wants to sell her's first before she buys mine, if anyone's interest in the subs and amp, email me, they are in perfect condition and I still have the original sub boxes I can use. I'll even throw in 17' of Red 8 guage power wire with fuse and 2-3' of black 8 guage ground wire with it.

Dual 4 ohm? With a 1000 watt Kenwood, right? This might suck... I don't think that amp is 1 ohm stable. Ouch. That's gonna force you to run at 4 ohms. Ouch. That's gonna make your amp put out around 500watts. Ouch again. Hopefully I am wrong about that amp not being 1 ohm stable, if not... ouch. Did I mention ouch?
