Component's all the way!!!! youll get much better sound out of them. What kind of components are you looking at? Infinity? This is my favorite tweeter mounting location

but with infinities I would NOT reccomend that cause infinities on axis are very harsh. This would be a better install for infinity tweets

or maybe some kick panels...hope all this helps

oh and one more thing...are you plannin to run this off an external amp?

one other thing, if i get components i can get infinity reference 6000cs, infinity kappa 60.5cs, jbl gto606c or kenwood kfc-p603 for cost, so what do you think has a more "clear" sound to them

I have Alpine 3-ways in mine and the sound is okay, but definitely not amazing.

I was always under the impression to make the most out of components you needed a decent amp?

Yeah thats true vancity to run components your gonna need an external amp for them to sound good...If you think about it most component RMS rating are between 100-200watts and seein as how your HU amp is pushin at the most of 20watts RMS you will not be givin them the power that they need. So if I were you i'd get some two way speakers until your ready to upgrade to an external amp. If your lookin to go infinity i would recommend the reference series over the kappa series for the simple reason that they have soft dome tweeters (trust me i own the 653.5 kappas and the tweeters hurt my ears if I turn them up)

kappa 60.5cs run at 2-90 rms so 20 watts out of a HU will work, but i do agree that component and any other speaker will sound best with an amp HU amps IMO suck

Yeah sorry about that components "will work" I worded that wrong but its like runnin your engine at 1500 rpms when it redlines a 7000 (the performance isn't nearly what it can be. You could always pick up a set of components and if the sound isnt good enough for you then pick up an external amp. btw: do you work at a stereo shop or somethin?

The tweeter pods that Freeser posted a link to are cool...but they are a TERRIBLE location for imaging. (no offense Freeser, you've answered some of my posts before so i respect you). A 3-way set WILL sound better IF done right. A custom kick panel is almost definitely needed. Most of your local car audio shops either won't do this, or won't do it right. A 3-way set really takes a professional to sound right. If a 3-way is not set up right, it WILL NOT sound good. The 2-way is definitely your best bet. See if the passive crossovers that come with your components have an output for a second set of tweeters. IF so, i highly recommend you getting an "image enhancement kit" from thezeb.com. They're from CDT audio. It's only $49.00 and will make your car sound A LOT better regardless if you go with a 2-way or 3-way.

thanks larry, it sounds like 3 ways are out of the running.
so back to tweeter placement where should they be for good imaging?

Well Larry tweeter placement depends on what kind of tweeters you have...soft dome tweeters in the mirror pod WILL sound good if they are set at around a -4 on the crossover. I'll agree that a set of infinities will blow your ears off in that location. As for imaging your tweeters Agent...the best thing to do is get your components on hand and install the drivers...then take a double sided piece of tape and stick the tweeters on various parts of the dash and see what sounds best tho YOU. Lets face it your the one whose gonna be listening to your system ;) . btw: areyou talkin about a 3way component set or 3way speakers. If your looking to do a three way component system let me know I can point you in the right direction for a good set of kick panels.

p.s. no offense taken Larry we all have our own opinions and all you were doing was stating yours.
