I was told that to replace the stock Monsoon stereo system, have to get the car rewired because of the dual voice coil setup. Or can you just use the existing wiring, and only use one set?

if you get new speakers then yea you'll need to re-wire it. If you keep the same speakers but decide to just do a new HU just buy a harness and you're good.
I tried putting front speakers in the front and hit a brick wall real quick. Basically there's two sets of two wires (instead of the usual one set of two wires). One's for the tweeters in the speaker and one's for the mid-range. I guess you could wire them together but I've heard you'll raise the voltage too high and blow the speakers.
Then again...wait for someone MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE in car audio to help you out some more. I'm just a novice. Hope this helps.

Thanks alot for your help! This is what ive done so far: i installed new speakers in the car, and then found out about the dual wire situation. If you tie the two together, the sound is just really distorted.......what Im wondering is can you just use one set of the wires to jack into a new head unit? I dont want to have to run all new wires throughout the car, so itd be really nice if i could do that.

Ok, so you're wanting to replace the speakers and headunit. If you are looking to power your new speakers off your new headunit, then you're not going to without running new wires. The speaker wires you see are coming from the factory amp, not the headunit. So basically you'd be in the same boat weather you replace the headunit or not. This and this link might be of some use to you.
