Speaker questions

I searched through most of the posts on here about speaker set-ups and I still have a question. I am interested in getting component speakers in the front and placing the tweeter in the place where the power window/door locks buttons should be. (i have manual windows/door locks) There is a blank cover there that I think would be a good place to put them. I am a big novice on all this and I have no tools or garage (living in a city apartment does that). Would an electronic store have the ability to mount tweeters there for me since I have no way to do it myself? I dont want kick panels, i'm a really tall guy and i need all the leg room i can muster up.

I'm planning on putting a nice set of speakers in the back ( i've read this is dumb by some people, but again, i'm really tall, my seat leans so far back my ears are right next to them). I have factory head unit.. is that efficient enough for powering fairly good speakers? say 200 watt rear speakers.. i dont think I want a sub since i dont care to "show off" my sound system to all the people who dont want to hear it... I just want it to sound great when my t-tops are off and i'm driving on the expressway. any suggestions are much appreciated.

any good audio shop can custom mount tweeters just about anywhere. but i think you're gonna have to change the head unit if you want to use aftermarket speakers but i'm not 100% sure on this...

You can still use the stock HU but to get anywhere near the full potential of the speakers you will need to upgrade to a better HU.

If I were you I would recommend getting components for the front and mounting the tweeter by the side mirrors (they make pods just for that) or on the door panels themselves. Then I would get some good 2/3-way speakers for the rear. You could still get components for the rear but I wouldnt recommend mounting the tweaters up front. I have seen people mount them where the little hanger hooks are. Either that or make a hole and mount them somewhere on the b-pillar.

Well as for mounting your local stereo shop should be able to fiberglass you smoe tweeter mounts. Yet another viable option (what I would do if I were you) is go to fbodyaudio and talk to some of the guys there (probly Kevin or Ray) and see what they can do for you. These guys know a lot about that kind of stuff. Ok and as for the rear speakeres...I personally don't run any rear speakers...but thats just me. What i would recommend that you do is take your factory speakers and fade them to the front all the way and drive around for a few days and see how you like it. btw: Its definiatly not a "dumb" idea to run rear speakers...its all in your tastes and how your like your music. I simply recommed that people try it to see if they like like it...if they dont they dont.

As for the components themselves...if your plannin on running them with an aftermarket amp (which I highly recommend) then your gonna need a aftermarket HU or things will start getting real complicated.

He doesnt mean rear speakers like in the hatch area, he means the ones on the b-pillars right behind your head.

I dont run either the b pillar speakers or sail panel speakers (hatch). I see that Tobes has found his way to fbodydaudio...those guys will teach you A LOT.

Thats exactly what i thought at first...I really thought everyone was stupid for even saying something like that...but after some research I tried just running the front stage speakers and it sounds much better IMHO. Here is a link that discusses it...

I have tried it both ways. I personally prefer speakers in the sail panels. To each his own.

I think the location you are refering to would be a bad idea. Even if you used a very soft sounding tweet, your ears would probably still bleed. [img]tongue.gif[/img] The side mirror or A-pillar would both be better choices. The side mirror would require SShevy's tweeter pods. The a-pillar is very easy and I'm sure you could do it yourself with a kitchen knife if need be. ;) Next, to do the components any justice, you need an aftermarket amp. And you don't HAVE to replace the factory headunit. Using the PAC OEM1 you can connect aftermarket amps to the factory headunit. Although, replacing any piece of factory garbage is always a plus! :D But first and formost, do you have the Bose or Monsoon system?

I just have a factory system not monsoon so i'm guessing bose.

I think i'm going to stick with side panel speakers cause like i said my head is right next to em.

The upgraded sound system for the 93-96 is the BOSE system and the upgraded system for the 97+ is the monsoon system. Do you have speakers in the hatch? Mine was the stock AC Delco system :eek: those speakers were ghetto...but it was real easy to upgrade.
