Power Windows......another option for the built in circuit breaker....

ok I know many of us including me have problems with the power windows hanging up and such....this is not the motors fault its the shi**y design in the heat activated circuit breaker..... talking to the techs at my dealership...it is possible to override this breaker....but then comes melting wires and fire with the auto window down and if you hold your hand on the switch to long....but....if we could bypass the built in heat breaker and put in a seperate in-line one that could be easily changed would it not work the same??....anybody...lets get some input on this....

hmmm.....it can be done. It adds extra wiring and extra circuitry for the adjustability.

it could either be a current sense circuit that actually senses that actual current and either opens or closes (it's an electrical fact that a motor that has it's shaft stalls consumes MUCH more current than a free-spining motor or one with a load).

Or, you could use your idea of sensing the temperature with a thermister and making an adjustable gate based on that. This would be much easier but much less reliable.

It all comes down to how in-depth you want this to be.

well they got thermisters in em now....you see how reliable that is.....Im just tired of having to bring the car to the dealership every week to have this fixed......

You need to replace the window motor. That sensor is there to keep the wires from melting. Adding an adjustable one will not help, IMO because you'll either a) have it shut down again or b) have the wires get hotter than designed.

The reason the switch is activating is becasue the motor is drawing too much current thru the wiring system. Modifying the protection circuit is bad news.

Min was doing the same thing, until I replaced the window motor and now it's fine. I recommend doing the same.
