Question about enclosure volume and sub performance
Question about enclosure volume and sub performance
A buddy of mine has built an enclosure for 2 12" subs and using the traditional formulas has calculated the approximate volume each side should be by pouring water in. Now that it's just about done, it appears he has about 15% more volume in each side.
Can anyone comment on potential effects of this to the sound and to the speakers themselves?
Should both filling in to get under 10% over? And if so, with what?
thanks...

Usually if you're within 20% either way, you're fine. You'll just have to take a listen. I will have to say that being on the larger side is better than being on the smaller side. If you feel you need to take some volume out of the box, try some pieces of dense foam. Usually it's blue and around 2" thick. Good luck
It depends if your enclosure is vented or sealed. If sealed a bigger box will allow for more low end extension and a little less power handling. If ported, it will adjust your tuning a little different. Yeah, a small amount more or less will not make that big or a difference, but 15% isn't that small IMO. Yes, fill with some ultra dense foam.
