Does anyones radar detector go off when accelerating?
Does anyones radar detector go off when accelerating?
I have a Whistler radar detector and whenever I accelerate fairly hard the laser alarm goes off. I read the directions and it says when this happenes it's because you have a bad distributor cap. But we don't have distributor caps...
I have a DIS-4 so the only thing I can think is that it's putting noise on the power line and making it go off. Anyone have this happen and done something to fix it? I put a capacitor on the power for the detector as a filter but it didn't help.
I also tried running it off a compleatly independent power system(a small 12v battery on the floor) and it still did it.
Thanks, I'll have to try that. Although I don't like the idea of foil on my radar detector...doesn't look so great :(

i just mean temporarly put foil under it to see if thats the problem. if that does fix it, you could put put foil under the dash to stop the interference from coming up into the car from the coilpacks...or something like that.
it's an el-cheapo 1730A. I had one that was pretty much exactly like it in operation and I think this is their new version of it. My old one worked perfectly and served me well but it didn't have one of those type of mounts that lets you just take the detector out and leave the braket on the windshield. So I got the new one and now it gets set off. I tried putting some aluminum foil under part of the dash under the detector but it didn't help...

if you have solid core plug wires it will do that, and is REALLY bad for the MSD-DIS 4
