what are the pros and cons on having a box that shares its airspace? im assuming the independant one is better, so i took that route, but it still interests me to know. btw its for a sealed box with 2 adire shivas. i found nothing oon this while doing a search. thanks for your input

You want to use a common chamber box ONLY IF:
1) you are using the same size and brand driver
2) you are giving both woofers the same amount of power.
3) both woofers have the same amount of use on them.
4) both woofers are crossed over at the same point and using the same slope.
Even if all these requirments are met, I would still use an seperately chambered box. Because if one woofer blows for some reason, it will more then likely destroy the other woofers in a common chamber box.
Think about it. Say you have three 10"s in 3cuft. tuned to 30Hz. One woofer blows due to manufacturer's defect. Now you have two 10"s in 3cuft. Assuming power is kept the same, this extra air space will increase cone excursion on the remaining two woofers. Which, of course, will increase the chances of you exceeded the mechanical limits of the remaining drivers.
The biggest advantage to having a common chamber box is space saving. Especially true for ported boxes.
