it's easy to take off if you wanna have a look for yourself. Just lift it off, it's held by velcro and some tabs. I personally don't think that would be a good plan, but it might work for you to put a center channel there.

I don't think there is enough room there. Besides, it'll ruin your soundstage putting it there. You want it too face as foward as possible, bouncing it off glass cause all kinds of soundstage nightmares.

I'm guessing this guy has a DVD system?

The center channel idea only works with 2-ch systems when there's a processor involved. I think Audiocontrol made one a while back, but it really didn't sound that great even when the speaker WASN'T pointed right at a giant reflector.

Long story short: Of course it can be done... anything can. If you have a DVD system, you can try it, but it would be easier to put it somewhere else. If you don't have a DVD system, don't bother.

I have a panasonic CQDF 800U, and i have output for a center channel speaker. I had one hooked up in my 74 GMC, and it was a nice change to use the "3DSB" Sound field mode. but im more concerned with effort VS result Im thi8nking i could put a 4x6 speaker in there..
