• 2001 3.8 Speakers

Saw the previous post down, just wanting to make sure I'm on the right page with my car...

2001 Camaro, 500W Monsoon system...

Going to be replacing everything, so I wanna know what I can do for sizes...

Front door can hold a 6.5" component set right?

I hear the back seat speakers are 6.5" too right? But with some adjusting you can get some 6x9's in there?

And then in the hatch there are 4" subs? If that's the case, would it be best to just take those out and leave them out? Or replace them with what?

Thanks for the help.

The front and rear seat speakers are 6 3/4", but most 6 1/2" will fit fine. Yes, 6.5" components up front. You got the right idea! The rear hatch speakers are 4", but these are not the "subs". The rear seat speakers are. Ya, I know. My suggestion is to remove them all together.

And to all those think that you can fit 6x9's by the rear seats..... I'd like to see you try.....

So just toss the hatch 4"s... nothing worth putting in there?

4x6's in the rear
6.75" in sails and doors.

Buy 6.5" ABS plastic adapters from sound domain to use normal 6.5" speakers, theyre 7" to 6.5" adapters and work extremely well.

If you have any questions, I got rid of my monsoon entirely and can help.

6.75's will get you a little deeper bass and you can go w/ a 4-way speaker then. that's for the doors and b-pillars. the backs, i dunno, but I'd replace those as well since they're paper surrounds.

Some 6.5's have the oversized holes so you can just pop them in, others dont. Depends on the speaker You got lucky.

personally, i'd just leave the 4"s in the back there.

I'm going to be replacing my whole monsoon system pretty soon, but i'm just thinking of leaving the 4"s there since they are basically just there for "filler" sound, and not that important, but I see no reason to totally take them out if they will still work.

I put 6x9's in my 94. The hole fits 6.5's. But with some cutting you can make them fit. Make sure you measure everything right so they don't rattle.

All the rear speakers do is confuse the soundstage (kill imaging), they're mainly for the rear passengers (and how often do we cram people back there?)

That said, spend your speaker money on the front set, get nice components with real crossover boxes. For sail and rear speakers, plug whatever you have around in there, and leave them faded out unless you want noise, then you won't care about a little distortion from the cheaper speakers.

Me? Sail panel are completely disconnected. Threw some 4x6 alpine plate speakers in the back (running off the head unit), and Focal polykevlar's in the front (running off Phoenix Gold. Single 10" a/d/s aluminum sub in a stealthbox in the back.

Imaging is great, with a well-mastered album you can clearly hear where they put the instruments on the sound stage.

Put 6 1/2" in the back, not 6x9. This "slight" modification bull**** is a lie. It is a pain in the *** and not worth the effort. Save yourself time and money. Get the 6 1/2" all the way around. As far as the speakers that go in the back hatch I'm not sure so I won't comment on them. Goodluck. I say this because I was very naive in believing someones coment on the "fitting" of 6x9 in the back and had to return the speakers because there was no way they would fit. Even with cutting it would be a tight fit.
