  • Subs "Pulsing"

I was at a Db drag this weekend (Not hoping to win but just see what it hits). The first time I hit a 147.4. That was ...well ok I guess. I went back and tried tuning the amp a little bit because the 147 came from the stock settings. Well I went back and the subs "pulsed' to a Sh*tty 143.4. Now it is louder at low volume than wide open. I have 2 Type R's in a ported box and a MRD-M1000 amp. Thats a 500 RMS @4 Ohm.(I run on a 2 Ohm load). Also does anyone know a good frequency to run type R's on? Or have good instructions(better than on Alpine1.com) on how to set that amp up. ( The whole OVER indicator confuses me) Thanks.

Depends on vehicle and tuned port frequency. Well, we know it's an f-body, tell us more about the box. The over light is used to match the voltage out of the headunit with the voltage setting on the amp. (Set the gain) The owners manual walks you through it step by step. Exactly which part confuses you? And what do you mean by "pulsed"?

ok, Its just a vented box...I'm not exactly sure on the airspace but I can figure it out for you if you need it. Right now it has a a vent that is 2" wide 10" long and 16.5" deep. I was thinking about experimenting with the vent size though..I heard it was way too small. The box is angled slightly toward the front...The overindicator confuses me because it comes on anywhere over volume 22. It never use to. It also just doesnt come on and stay on, it randomly lights up. That makes it hard to know how much is too much. Finally, what I mean by them pulsing is that they throw REALLY hard randomlly. They dont even hit with the bass they just cut in and out. Even though they are throwing hard, they arent making much noise. Ex:In a bass drop they arent smoothly vibrating they ...HIT HIT HIT. I hope this helps you. If you need to know anything else just tell me. Thanks alot for your help.

You need to get a bench test on your amp. It may be sending the wrong kind of current to your subs.
