• ditching monsoon, check this setup..

Hi guys,

i am replacing my monsoon system. Going with a new everything and getting a couple subs in a box to put behind the driver and passenger seats. Let me know if you think this is a good setup. I want decent loud bass (that i can turn on or off via the subs) or just the regular speakers if i'm listening to classic rock. Let me know what else i'll need, besides the harnesses, install kit etc.

I am also extremely UNknowledgable about stereo equipment, so i want to be prepared before i go and get it installed or purchase it all. I also have read the whole ls1tech discussion and searched. I am looking through circuit city as an example on these because i dont want to do mail order on these.

hu - Panasonic In-Dash CD Player (CQ-C5301U) 150.00
door - Pioneer 6 1/2" 3-Way Speakers (TS-A1671R)60.00
rear seat panels - Pioneer 6 1/2" 3-Way Speakers (TS-A1671R) 70.00
Amp - Audiobahn Mono-Channel Amplifier (A8000T) 350.00
Subs - 2 Audiobahn 12" Subwoofer (AW1206T) in a ARS QLH12D100 box 300.00 or Kicker Dual 10" Subwoofer/Enclosure Package (DC10) for about same

I have the same speakers for the door and the back seat panels because i cant find the 61/2 midbass, these showed they would work though for both.

Thanks for any help at all.

Well it's not exactly the best set-up, but it'll be okay. I really don't know why you want to run 2 subs off of a mono-channel amp, but if you insist on that amp, you might want to go here: http://www.techronics.com/index.cfm?...id=3&aff=45847 . It's more than $150 cheaper than what you were going to buy it for.

It's free shipping too.

Basically because i am an idiot when it comes to electronics and audio. I just picked out the things i would need based on my very minimal knowledge. I picked the hu because it had 3 rca and anything i would need. I would gladly take suggestions for a better one around 100-200 bucks.

I was looking at 4 channel amps, but then that i wouldnt want to run more than 1 channel for subs so i took it as "get a 1 channel amp". So would i be much better of with a 2 or 4 channel and would this one have enough rms to power the 2 12's?

Any help or criticism or advice on a better setup is welcome. I enjoy nice sound quality, it doesnt have to be high end. I am wanting to do shows in the future so would like a quality setup. I am looking at a milhouse box from subthump aswell.

Hey, what do you plan on doing with the factory speakers once you yank them out? I could really use a driver side door speaker for my Camaro. The one i have now is about ready to die on me. If you are looking to sell them in order to help pick up part of the cost for the new system, be sure to let me know.

I am replacing them because 1 front is dead and the other vibrates. One rear seat is dead and the other is faint. The back two work perfect. Mine lasted almost 6 years and they were clipping alot. I turned it all the way up the back a 1/4 turn to full blast with bass up. Not smart, but you know.

Anyway i'll keep you in mind when i get them all of and get them tested.

It will be 1-2 months though, just ordered zo6 rivetted and a 700 exhaust. Tapped til next month.

oh, just remembered while i was checking the posts for the past 100 days i noticed someone saying how to get new speakers (monsoon factory from gm) for 35 bucks each. I got quoted about 90 each from gm so search it up for part #'s. It was gmpartsdirect.com i think.

What's wrong with that? I think you're a little confused. Any number of speakers can be powered off any number of amplifier channels. You just have to watch the load you're placing on the amp. Please see our entry in the modifications encyclopedia for a little refresher.

Red, couple of things I would personally change. First, your headunit. I'm showing it having 2.2V outputs. Try for something with atleast 4V. Maybe bump up to the CQ-C7401U? Much nicer unit. Next, front speakers. Pioneer is far from the best when it comes to speakers. Also, a component set is always within someones price limit. May I recommend the Infinity reference line or the Pheonix Gold ZR line. For rear speakers, grab a pair of coaxils that match the brand components you choose. Amp. Wanna try to power those components if you're budget will allow. Maybe a single 4-channel amp? Two front channels to the components and the two rear channels bridged for the subs? If you decide on this route, I recommend something atleast 75RMSx4@4ohms. The Audiobahn A6004T would be a decent choice for that price range. Remember you'll need to run your subs at a 4 ohm nominal load with the setup. Here's a little help on that. All of the above mentioned gear is really the cheapest "quality" stuff you'll find. You're really streching every penny. As far as making a show car, you're looking into the wrong stuff. Not saying this gear is cr@p, but there is far better out there. Need to save up some more cash. I realize you don't intend on going buck wild on this, but for ANY show purpose........ you're just plain gonna need better equipment. Let us know if you have any questions. Don't buy anything unless you're sure of what you're doing. Example, buying two dual 2 ohm subwoofers with the amp above. You're screwed. Can't use one or the other.... just trying to save you the trouble.
