• Xm Radio Antenna

I just bought XM for my car and i'm having trouble mounting the magnetic antenna on the outside of the car. I have t-tops so there is only a small semi-metallic strip on the roof of my car. They say that mounting the antenna on a non-metallic surface results in a bad signal. Does anyone have an antenna that works well installed? If so, where and how did u route the wire into the car? thanks

I just keep mine on the "shelf" right behind the back seat. It works just fine. I then easily routed the wire under the back seat, floor mats, etc.
Don't know why they say it must be mounted on a metallic surface. I have the "Roady" system.

I have seen people stash it in the spoiler behind the 3rd brake light.

it does need to be mounted to a metal ground...if you notice on the sirius antennas thats why they have that big ol' piece of rubber goin out the back of the antenna....I went and got a glass mount antenna to fix my problems

Well, he was asking about XM not Sirius. My antenna has no big 'ol piece of rubber. It is just a magnetic antenna. (A roof mount). It works great keeping it on carpet between the back seat and the T-Top well.

Blue Flame--Can you explain what you did a little clearer? The roof bar is non metallic.

The terk uses double sided tape so no metal needed.

your not getting my point, sirius simply takes the guess work out of it for you and requires you to mount your antenna on a decent ground....if you read the manual that came with your antenna/xm reciever it WILL say that for the magnetic mount antennas you should have at least a 6x6in. mounting space of just a metal ground to recieive the best transmission...so please unless you fully understand the concept of what your are talking about, keep your mouth shut

Hey Nikon

Forget your Prozac today?

Secondly if you re-read what I said, if you can, you will discover that I was simply noting what I had done with my XM antenna. I have it where I noted and it works just fine. My manual states that they SUGGEST it being attached to metal.

Why would he or I care about what Sirius does since we both have XM?

Calm down pal.

I mounted mine on the roof just behind the black strip that goes between my t-tops. I like how it looks hope this helped.

I bought an antenna that it sticks to the roof...
i put it in center thingy behind the t-tops
i had the antenna ur talking about... the inside part worked alright (like on the shelf in the back) BUTTT if you have a rear tinted window and or defroster u lose a lot of reception ... i have pics somewhere in my fropile
