  • Multiple amp wiring??

    Right now I have just a profile 420watts@2ohms powering my sub, but I want to add another amp for my speakers like an alpine or something around 50 watts per channel. I have one 4 guage power wire running, is that enough for 2 the two amps??? if so, how should i go about adding in that second amp??

    4 gauge wire is good for up to 1000 watts within 8 feet of wire.

    http://www.the12volt.com is a godsend (for me at least) for figuring out how to wire things correctly.

      4 gauge is good for more than 8 feet....what is the fuse rating on both of your amps?

        my profile is 3, 20 amp fuses. And the the other is 2 fuses 20 amps each.

          well if 4 guage is good, how do i go about wiring it?? how do i have the one 4 guage wire power both amps?

            4g will be good for both amps. You need to run a distribution block at the rear of the vehicle. This will "split" your 4g wire in two or more smaller wires. Here is an example of a non-fused d-block. Remember, you will need TWO power wires to power JUST the 4-channel amp you are thinking of adding. For a total of 3 power wires. You will also need TWO sets of RCAs for JUST the 4-channel. Total of 3 pairs. For the remote wire, you can just slice into it. No prob. But if you ever plan to add a third amp, you will want to run a relay on the remote wire. Just a note.

              Basically what ^ said

              And GET A FUSED DISTRIBITION BLOCK!!!! Unless you want your car to catch fire if something shorts out. Also make sure you have an inline fuse near the battery.

              Your also going to need a d-block for your ground, it just makes it easier. That doesn't need to be fused.

              The only question I have is why does he need to run two power wires to his four channel amp?

                DO NOT use a fused distribution block for the ground.

                And my 4-channel amp (Rockford 800a4) requires two power inputs and two grounds.

                  Do not know if it helps but the thicker the wire obviously the better it will be for power flow. I have a deep cycle in my hatch that has 0 gauge wire running from it to the AMP. It sounds really good.
