  • charging my cap?

i got my 1 farad rockford fosgate cap today and i have a few questions.

yes, i read the thread that i searched and found about it and i dont really get what i need to do to charge it?? also, it came with like a charge card, but is it necessary that i charge the cap before i use it? also how often will i have to recharge it? thanks.

p.s my amp has a pos. and neg. terminal for the cap so that should make it so i dont need to ground it to the chasis, correct? i just wire the pos. side to the pos. side, and the neg. to the neg. side on the amp?

Use the card to charge the cap, only charge it once. If you don't charge it the electical system will probaly spike and blow some fuses. Also Ground the cap to the chassis not to the amp.

The cap should have came with some type of resistor which is used to charge the cap. With your amp disconnected... Hook the ground wire up to the Neg terminal on the Cap first. Then before you attatch the power wire to the Positive terminal on the Cap , put the resistor inbetween the power wire and the Positive terminal on the cap. The resistor allows the cap to charge at a slower/safer rate.

          ok thanks.

i took a different method, suggested by a friend of mine, i just connected everything, turned my car on for about 5 minutes with my system/amp on, but zero volume level. and it charged up fine and im using it now with no problems!

it only takes a split second to charge. i lost that little thing. the only thing it will do if you just hook it up is spark. but then it will stil work.
