Real basic - firebird radio removal

I've looked everywhere for this information and I think I must just be doing something wrong. I removed the radio bezel, unscrewed the screws and I can pull the head unit part way out but not all the way. I can feel what I assume is the wiring holding it back. Is there somewhere else I have to unscrew in order to get to the wiring in the back?

the antena plug is really short is located on the right side of the head unit
unplug that one a the unit will come out more

how am I even supposed to get to that though? I can't pull the unit out enough to even access the back of it.

see where I have the grey wire running behind the console? reach behind there and up and you should be able to get it. if you get in the floorboard and look you should be able to see what you are doing. on mine all the wires were split into 2 bundled groups and had some kind of divider in the middle that I had to lift the wires over to get it to come out far enought to do anything.

So I have to unscrew it by opening up the glove box and doing so from there?

wow [img]graemlins/stickpoke.gif[/img] it is pretty easy to do grab the radio pull a little to the right side enough to get your hand inside or some tool and pull the antena plug that is locate on the bottom right corner of the head unit thats how i did mine
also you can get to the cable that andrew mention from the same location

Just pull really hard, thats what I did. The antenna plug is in very hard, will take some strength to get that out. But don't be shy, you won't break anything (worth a lot ;) ).

You can reach it from the behind as andrew said. No need to unscrew or open the glove box or anything. Just reach up there.

Thanks, I got it out now but the thing is after putting it back in, my LED display is very very dark. It almost looks like it's not even on but you can barely make it out. WHen I turn on my lights, the leds behind the buttons come up alright and the radio still works fine but just the digital display is very very dark. What did I do?

I checked and all the connections are in solid and tight.

maybe some of the leds are bad

It was fine before I removed it and it just wont light up after plugging everything back in even though everything else works.

They are bulbs believe it or not...

I gotta ask..... do you have the dimmer switch turned down? Right next to the headlight switch.

No I dont have it turned down, all the other interior lights are fine. My digital display on my radio is just very dark.
