  • Infinity Speakers For Rear Seats

ok guys, i'm gonna be replacing my monsoon speakers in my car pretty soon.

Here is the setup i'm looking at right now from the HU back

    Receiver: JVC KD-SX990 MP3/CD receiver. $200
    Door Speakers: Infinity Kappa 63.5i 6 1/2" 3Way Speakers $200

The Question I have is for the rear seat speakers (not the ones in the hatch, but the 6 1/2s in the rear seat panels).
the speakers I'm looking at for this location are these

    Infinity Reference 6 ½” Two-Way Speaker

    or

    Infinity Kappa 62.5i 6 1/2" Two-Way Speakers

I know that the rear seat speakers are the woofers, so which one of these last two speakers would give me the best sound/bass responce for my money?

Neither of those speakers are going to give you any bass what so ever. And you will have trouble even getting mid-range out of those. I know because I have owned them. The idea of a good soundstage is for all high frequencies to be up front and ear high. Then fade into the lower frequencies towards the rear of the car. A component set, such as these should take care of all you highs and mids. Then use a midrange or midbass, such as these next to the rear seats. Then subwoofers would usually be added for the subbass freqs. Again, I strongly recommend avoiding 2 or 3-way speakers for the rear. You can use them up front if you must, but those high frequencies behind your head are going to destroy your soundstage.... not to mention the lack of midbass. Also, may I recommend the Alpine 9811 for a head unit? It outpreforms other headunits that are even $100 more. With 3 sets of 4V preouts, a motorized faceplate and 4-channel time correction.... it's unbeatable for that price!! If you ever decide to add amp(s), you'll be greatfull you bought this head unit over the JVC.

like 96firebird311 said, i just put infiniti kappa 60.5cs 6-1/2" components in the doors and kappa 63.5 6-1/2" 3-ways for the back seats, along with a new kenwood mp3/cd deck and a jensen 200w amp with jl 8" sub
      sounds really really good :D

soundsl ike a great plan right there.

I might opt for the higher end Apline receiver if I can find it ono ebay for cheaper (probably will be able to)

Yeah I have the 605cs components in my doors and they sound great. I have some 3-way Pioneer Premiers in the rear and they sound pretty good. Decent bass response too. I've got a 400w Kenwood amp running the mids and highs and an 760w Pioneer amp pushing 2 10" MTX subs in stealthboxes that I recently installed. I also have a JVC SX980 MP3 reciever. Kind of a mutt system but it sounds good and pounds pretty hard.
