  • amp and sub match

I was wondering if this amp would still push this sub:

    amp: http://www.blaupunktusa.com/Blaupunk...ity/VA1400.htm

    sub: http://www.blaupunktusa.com/Blaupunk...fer/Vw1200.htm

the only problem I see is that the sub needs 1200w rms @ 2Ohms, and the amp can only put out 400w rms. I wouldn't think the amp would be able to handle the power, but I've seen some connections from the fosgate amps where the max rms was 1000w rms and could still push one of these. Can anyone help? This is a mono class D amp I believe also. Thank you.

Unless you can get those REALLY cheap, there are a TON of better options for the money. IMHO, I'd stay as far away from Blau as possible.

If you want a good solid, budget setup. Look into Hifonics amps (cheap on Ebay) and get a good name brand sub (Rockford, JL Audio, Image Dynamics, Eclipse, etc, etc..) and get a nice box built for that specific subwoofer's airspace requirements.

BTW, your sub makes NO power, your amp does. Using the Blau products you have there, here is how they match up:
Sub is dual 2 ohm, so it can only be wired as a 4 ohm sub or as a 1 ohm sub. Put the voice coils in series = 4 ohm load. Put the voice coils in parallel = 1 ohm load.
The amp is a mono block (1 channel) amp. It does 400 watts at 4 ohms and 600 watts at 2 ohms.

Since your sub choice cannot be configured to be a 2 ohm load, you cannot run your amp at the optimum load for power (2 ohms). Therefor this amp is not a good match to this sub.
Either look for a 2 channel amp that you can bridge to 1 channel (these are typically a good match for a 4 ohm load) or find a mono amp that is rated down to 1 ohm.

Sorry, but I didn't mean that the sub makes power. Miss key. technically, neither one of them make power, the amp magnifies the power to acrew more power. If you look on the website, it says it's stable @ 1 Ohms. This must mean that it can be configured into 1 Ohm. Thank you for your response, just trying to figure out the best way I can do this and yes, I do get a great discount on the parts.
