  • '99 Firebird Turn Signal (front and back) Dying. Help.

    Hey everyone-

My '99 Firebird is starting to give me a few small, but potentially serious problems.

Now, I know that Firebird's allegedly don't have very consistant DRL timings and such, but within the last few days, here are a few issues I've run into:

1.) I hear a small "buzzing" (almost like a small rattle) coming from somewhere near the steering wheel/radio area. This occurs when my turn signals are engaged.

2.) My green arrows on the master control (speedometer area) are flickering while the turn signal is on.

3.) My turn signals and tail lights flicker on occation and die out, and the timing between "blinks" is extremely inconsistant, and I fear that I will be pulled over for it (trust me, the cops have a vendetta against Firebirds/Camaros here)

Is this something I can fix myself (I'm a novice), or should I take it in somewhere?

I already have a problem with my passanger side windshield wiper. I just noticed it "hangs" over the edge of the black plastic about a quarter inch and my wipers are the right size. My digital camera isn't here right now so I can't take a picture, but I think a part may be missing...

You can replace the blinker unit which is located under the steering column. Any auto store should have a replacement.

yup, replace the flasher. I had the same type of problem w/ my '99 Bird, & I thought it might have been the DRL module cuz it clicked @ a delay from the signal. I tried the flasher first & that did it.

Yea the blinker is located beside you radio when you take the panel off under the steering wheel, looks like a little round metal thingie.
