  • is jl audio this underated!!!!

my neighbor works at a professional sudio store and i was asking him about a decent sub for a small subthump box and something between 600-800 RMS he told me the jl audio w3 that it was only rated 300 watts rms, but could easily handle 600-800 RMS ( iasked RMS and he said yeah) is this true! i have a audiobahn 8000t, and if not what is a good sub for that small box!!!

You'd actually be surprised as to how much clean power most subwoofers can handle on a daily basis and even more so for comps. First off, it's all in the box. The small little stealth box will help which ever woofer you choose handle that extra oompff. Will the W3 handle 800WRMS cleanly? Nobody can really tell you that, but I will tell you you're asking for trouble. That should go unsaid. If it could do 800WRMS all day, then it would be rated at 800WRMS.

500 RMS i think is pushing it, their for sure you can feed it 400 watts all day everyday and it will probrably take it.

Chet since you love your bass so much, why dont you go with dual 15's or something and skimp on the little stealth box.

A pair of ported 12's or 15's will knock.

I had a JL W7 for about a year, and pushing them above the RMS will wear them down...
I usually ran it about 1000 watts(the peak) and the rms was 500, after about 4 months it started cracking, the fifth month it got worse so I checked out my sub, examined it closely and saw the result of running it almost double the RMS... multiple tears in the rubber foam surrounding, cost $400 + shipping to fix
