I have read some mixed reviews in here about Alpine products but one of their high-end decks (cda-7998) is on sale for $400.00. What do you guys think, should I get it? Just seems like a good price compared to a few months ago when it was at 700-800 bucks.

I don't think that's a good deal on that deck at all. It's an older model already. Yes I remember reading about that issue. Another issue I read about was that some people were having problems with the motorized face mechanism failing on the 7998. I may just go with something else. I've got about 400 right now to spend. How about Eclipse, do they still make good head units?2006 TiburonComment

Eclipse is the god of HU's right now IMHO. I have been looking into setting up a new system and from what i have read and listened to in some friends cars they are my #1 pick. I use to like alpine but had a few problems and so did my friends so i would not buy or recomend them anymore. Thanks for the info. I've always had good luck with an older high-end eclipse cd-player I purchased 5-6 years ago. It worked great all this time till I left it in the car I traded in for the Firebird.2006 TiburonComment

i have the 9835 from alpine. i got it for 400$. GREAT headunit. the sound off of it is great and it also looks godly.
eclipse is also really good, but lacks the display i like
