• Will box make sub louder?

I currently have a home made box sitting under the hatch facing right up against the glass. I am looking at a Sub thump box for christmas. I have 1 15 L7. So im gonna have to get the 15 deep well enclosure. They discontinued the ported 15 boxes so im stuck with a sealed.

My homemade box is not the best. It probably has a few leaks and some screws around the sub are stripped. There is spaces air comes through.

What kind of difference could i expect with the Deep Well 15 box. I like how it is flush with the car and it is made to look like it should fit. Will the sub being angled do anything with the sound? Let me know. Because im stuck between window tint or Sub box.

I suggest you read the little write up on box designs in the modifications encyclopedia. Then ask yourself, how large is the box I have now? How large is the box I'm getting? What will the increase in volume (of air) do to my sub? Lemme know if that doesn't answer your question.

Also, the Subthump deepwell box most likely has enough space to port for a single 15L7. Buy the sealed box, then port it yourself. I'll give you port dimensions if needed.

      my $.02...get this

i know what you're thinking...it's a cheap piece of junk. HA! i got the one for my alpine 10." it's NASTY. it did soooo much for my sub switching to a vented box from a sealed box. i have a 10" Alpine type-R sub rated at 1500W. it's a great sub.

the box is VERY high quality, do NOT let the price fool you. it's very thick, well built, does not rattle, and can handle a lot of power.

btw, pick up some 12 gauge speaker wire too while your at it if you don't already have it. their speaker wire made a nice improvement to my sub. nice and clean. very high quality products here.

A ported enclosure will be noticabely louder than a sealed enclosure. Maybe you can buy the box from subthump and get an aero port and cut out the hole to size, probrably a 3'' diamater port.

Or you can go to a local shop and have them make a square port and they make it look nice by putting mirror in the port a few neons in there to light up and vinyl it.

My guess is that none of you have actually looked at the port specs for a 15L7 because they are quite large. Which means that you cannot take this box and stick one port in it and make it sound good. They call for a minimum of 40.6 square inches at 19.5" long.

So a 3" port is less than One Fourth the port area kicker calls for. Not to mention the port needs to be 19.5 inches long. Even if you could somehow cram a port of that magnatude into the box, it would take at least half a cube of nominal airspace away from the sub--which would put the box down around 2.5 cu.ft give or take and that's less than what kicker recommends for a ported enclosure and that would only make things worse.

Sure, if you want this thing to sound like *** in hopes of it being louder, buy the sealed one and cut it all up to jerry rig some magical port. I certainly would not do that.
