  • Adding remote start to factory alarm system

I've been looking for a remote start to add to my 02 Firebird convert for 6 mths already. I know DEI is the way to go. Im a bit confused about a few things though. I have a factory alarm with keyless entery and trunk release.

    1) Is it possible to just add a remote start to my factory alarm system, using the same factory remote?

    2) Can I add just a remote start, using a different remote? So I'll have 1 for remote start, 1 for factory alarm/keyless/trunk.

    3) One place told me I'd have to disable my factory alarm to add a remote start, is this true?

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanx

If you have proggresive door locks.(One click unlocks drivers door and two unlocks both) Then you can rewire the first click to unlock both leaving and empty 2 click channel to control another device. ie Remote Start, Window roll down, ect.

You might want to search this forum and ls1.com ls2.com and ls1tech.com, I have read a few writeups but I don't remember which forum.

Thanks alot. I do have progressive locks. Im in north jersey and so far the child installers at Circuit City and 6th ave are taking me for a ride an/or not giving me a straight answer.

Aside from the remote start itself, do I have to buy any parts? The starter I want is a Viper Valet 561R.

yea u can have it wired, but it would be much more costly unless you were going to do it yourself. GM sucks when it comes to wiring though, especially with cadillacs
