Stock head unit inputs possible?

I plan on getting an mp3 player for christmas but the iPod is just so much money and I already went through two of them. Apple has perhaps the worst customer service ever.

Anyway, what i'm looking at isn't going to have anything more than regular audio output for headphones so I was wondering if there is any sort of adapter I can purchase for the stock firebird headunit that would allow me to connect my mp3 player using a standard audio cable.

I've read from a few places that they do make adapters, but that they wont work on head units that are the AM/FM Cd model (which is what I have). I don't have the monsoon system or anything and I don't have a cd changer wired up.

Aside from using a crappy FM transmitter or buying a new head unit with inputs built in, what are my options? I don't mind hacking up some wires if I have to (given the modification is somewhat easy) and taking a trip to radio shack. But I've read that the aforementioned adapters plug into the back of the radio where a cd changer would connect.

Can anybody give me some more information?

You don't need to actually have the CD changer, you just need a head unit that is capable of controlling the CD changer, because the adapters convert the CD changer port to take RCA inputs.

The adapters you should look at is the PIE GM9-AUX or the PAC AAI-GM9.

i think the monsoon head unit it capable of having inputs, but not the non-monsoon setup.

i would reccomend a new headunit youll probably enjoy it more anyway.

yea i'd go a new head unit. Personally, if you have the money, the go with a pioneer. If not, go with the JVC that has the aux input in the front. Either way, it wont be as big of a pian. Now if you want a way around it, pm me and I'll see what I can do for you, but I'm not going to post it on here, unless someone else wants to know how also.

i just picked up a pioneer 8mp its a sweet deck with alot of features for 280 shipped.

you can get hu's pretty cheap nowadays. check out ebay. eclipse, clarion, pioneer, kenwood are all good names.

you can get things that make your cd changer connection into an input for mp3 players. they run like 130 bucks but sound way better than a transmitter.
