• Bose Stock System

I have been told now by 2 places that because I have the Bose setup in my 96 Camaro I am unable to get a new deck, any subs or an amp because of restrictions on the already aplified system.

I've been told that the only way I could put that type of equiptment in is if I ripped all of the Bose stuff out and started from scratch.

Is this true?
Has anyone else run into this problem/predicament?

You can replace the Bose system with a different HU if you get the special adapter. I had the old Bose and the install cost me a little more because of the adapter charge. It was like 50 bucks.

If you want different speakers, you'll have to get a different HU first! Either that or an amp to power them because the Bose won't do it.

That is true. The reasons is, is the stock Bose head unit doesn't have an amp built into it and it sends out pre-amp level signals to the amps. The amps (2), are located on the front door speakers, and power both the door speakers and the sail panel speakers on that side, and then the 1 Bose sub in the left rear, is separate.

You CAN, use the factory wiring on the door speakers. What I did is located which wires were the signal wires and used those into the new speakers from the new head unit. The rear speakers, I havn't figured out yet. The wiring doesn't seem to work, and I may have to run new wires for them.

But, what you have been told is true. If you wanna replace one piece of the Bose, will have to rip it all out and go with aftermarket everything.

There may be some sort of adapter available, but I'm thinking it's for the Monsoon, not the Bose.

Ahh.. ok. That's good to know. But at $50, why not spend a little more and put 4 mid-quality aftermarket speakers, which will be a 200+% improvement over the Bose crap?

Bose crap?? I have the Bose system in mine and replaced my head unti with a JVC Kameleon (w/ the bose adapter) and my stereo sounds AWSOME. My bass hits harder than my friends 10" rockford fosgates did. There's not a single person that's ridden in my car and believes that my speakers are stock. The bass is deep enough on certain songs to make you nautious. I'm not exaggerating by any means.

I was not all that impressed with the bose equipment in my car. Granted, for a factory stereo, it is great! But I wouldn't trade even a mediocre aftermarket system for the the best Bose system.

My 2 12's and blow my girlfriend's hair around, render all 3 of my mirrors useless, massage my back, hurt my head, rattle windows 2 blocks away and set off car alarms within 100'range... all at the same time. And they're only low end Pioneer 12's running off of only 250 Watts of Rockford Punch Power. No matter how good the factory Bose might be, a low power 6.5" 'subwoofer' cannot produce the same effects

In a nutshell... how I feel about the factory Bose: It's a great factory setup, but it's still factory.

I used to have one of those tassles from high school hanging on my mirror and that little 6.5" sub would shake the tassles like no tomorrow. My friend has a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the Infinity Gold system and the Bose blows it out of the water. Maybe the JVC Kameleon deck just really brings out the Bose, I dunno. But mine sounds nice as hell. From the deep bass to the high treble. Much better than any Monsoon system I've heard.

I have the 500 watt Monsoon system. I replaced the HU with an Alpine and the front door speakers with Soundstream's and left the back intact as Monsoon. The Alpine HU really cleaned up the whole system. My friends cannot believe that it is the factory Monsoon in the rear, the bass hits hard andis much cleaner w/o the stock HU there. I will be adding a stealthbox at some point in the future, but for now, the clarity of my system rocks. The soundstreams are running off the Alpine built in amp and everything is very clean and crystal clear. My stereo shop where I got the HU was stunned at how good it sounded, and these guys know what they are doing. As the owner of the shop said..."with the way the interior is designed in F-Bodies, it doesn't take much to get decent sound and great sound is just a little more effort" Just my .02, don't knock the Monsoon, it only needs a little help to be decent. I haven't heard the Bose, so no comment on it.

Bose = Decent system with marginal gains over standard stock systems (in general)

Dleco = Very poor quality and reliability (what else would you expect from DELPHI?)

Bose + Delco = decent system that breaks down alot.

I ripped my Bose amps/speakers out the second I got the car. (Kept the head unit for major mods)

Now I have stock look and superior sound. What else could you ask for?
