  • Amp repair

My amp bit the dust while i was in Alabama visiting Fin and Camarochic (yes i made the 3hr trip back home with no radio). You think i could get a shop to repair it or what? Has anyone ever had an amp repaired? If so would it be worth it? Just looking for any input, because the amp is over 3 years old and i am pretty sure it is out of warranty, although i need to find the paper work to double check.

By the way, i am now running my components off my HU (sucks) and no sub either (sucks too).

EDIT: Guess my 96 is no longer "Amped." hehe...only temporarily of course!

Depends on how much you LIKE the amp. I had one of my amps repaird and it cost me 103 dollars plus tax. 103$ was better than 350$ for a new one so i went ahead and had it fixed. I ended up blowing 8 Mosfets...or so i was told anyhow. It would have been less if it would have JUST been the power supply. It all comes down to what it would cost to replace it,if you have the money to replace it with something equal or better, or if you like the amp enough to have it fixed.

Well, the amp lasted 3 years, so i like it. It was $200 (price of the amp below it, they sent me this one since they quit making the other one so i got a good deal i guess). I am not real sure what is wrong with it. It is stuck in "Protect" mode. I unhooked every speaker from it and it was still in protect (my first thought was i had blown a speaker and it shorted out and sent the amp into protect mode) and even checked all the other wires like power and ground.

 Of course i checked the fuse. Jeez, i figured i had been on here long enough for people not to think im a moron. First if the fuse was blown, the amp wouldn't be getting power to be able to go into protect mode. I did check the fuses to be sure though.

          Thanks for the reply anywyas.

my bad, I just didn't see you put anything on their about a fuse, I didn't think you were a moron, just thought you might have forgot, I know I would have, and I really don't know what will happen if you blow a fuse...sorry, just thought I'd add the fuse thing incase you forgot. Good luck finding out an answer to all this.

Ah, no biggie...yeah, fuse was first thing i checked. I actually have the fuse out right now so that no power is going to the amp since it isn't working anyways. I figured that would be best to prevent maybe more damage to it.

My suggestion would be to just buy a new one. If it's three years old, then it's time for something newer.

Just check the for sale forum on here or CZ28.com or Ebay or something, that way you'll get a good deal on a better amp. The only downside to that would be waiting for the amp to come in the mail. I HATE THAT!!!!

I had one of my PPI amps fixed. I bought it from ebay from an ebay bastard that likes to sell stuff DOA. It was months before I actually used the amp and it was beautiful on the outside so I figured it'd be good. I plugged it in and... nothing. Opened it up and there was fried board components everywhere. I needed this amp to match everything else in the car so I sent it off to PPI. It was a flat rate $100 to have the amp repaired. I got it back in two weeks and all was great. The amp is 10 years old but is still worth about 300 so that's a good value. If it will cost 100 to fix a 3 year old amp that is only worth 100 bucks, it's not a good value, but a new one.
