• Looking for a 12v that's only on when the cars in ignition..

Not looking for one that's hot all the time, just when the car is on.

Near the driver side, steering wheel column, anywhere. Looking to wire up some gauges.

I guess if anyone knows a good ground wire around there too that'd be great, I don't have a Haynes and I'm horrible at reading electrical diagrams anyway.

    Any help appreciated.

    Sam

EDIT: I don't want to use my 12v from the cigarette lights because I already have the fan switch running off them.

tap into the fuse box next to the steering wheel. There are a couple spots that don't have fuses in them, but still have power. Some hot all the time, some only hot when ign. is on. For a ground..... make one yourself. scrap and sand off ALL the paint on the chassis... and clamp er' down!

If you pull off the kick panel under the steering wheel and dig around, the thick orange wire is the ignition accessory wire. It is only hot when the key is turned forward, or while the car is running. Grounding inside the cabin, for me, has been a b*tch. Everything in there seems to be plastic...good luck on that one.

BTW: A good place to get simple info about which wire is does what on any vehicle, try this place. Bulldog Security, wiring diagrams

This is right. It will be on only when the ignition is on.

Here's a picture. You can see which one I ran a wire off of for my purposes.
