• Window Conversion

I have the crank windows, and I am dying to do a conversion to power windows, but I just can't figure it out. Back in the day there was someone on here who did it, but he never updated his site and has since disappeared. Is there anyone else who has done this? Any ideas? Thanks guys.

I had my car for about a month before I realized manual windows just wouldn't do. I got the kit including power window regulators (the scissors looking things that actually move the windows), switches, and a relay from http://www.a1electric.com for around $250.

As for the install, the hard part is drilling out the factory rivets, pulling the old regulators out, and bolting the new ones in. I mounted the switches in a piece of abs plastic where the ash tray used to be.

How hard was it? It was easy enough that I got it done without any problems in one afternoon, but hard enough that I'll never do it again.

The end result is well worth the hassle. If you decide do it, do yourself a favor and install power door lock actuators at the same time too, if you don't already have them.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck.

Hey, thanks for the info guys! That is what I am looking for. Are the instructions that come with these kits any good? I don't wanna drop $300 on something that isn't gonna work or that I am going to have trouble with. I don't care if it is hard, I am just sick of dealing with crank windows (it is kinda embarassing!). Also, if I got the factory switches and switch pods, do you think it would work instead of having to get the console ones? The door ones don't look like they'd work, and I am sure I can get the GM ones from a junkyard cheaper too. Thanks again for the great info guys!

I completely understand about window cranks being embarrasing, and that's exactly why I upgraded to power windows. The instructions that came with the kit were very clear, and included step by step pictures of our car doors, and where the bolts are to be placed.

The install is pretty easy, it's just man-handling the tracks and scissors into place that takes a lot of effort. You'll need a second set of hands to hold the glass up (and move it down when needed) for you.

Factory switches and pods would be a nice and clean way to go. I just installed mine in the console because that's the general area my right hand seems to rest in anyways

The kit that autoloc sells looks exactly like the kit I bought from a1electric for 2/3's the price. I've dealt w/ both companies, and didn't have a problem with either. This page, http://www.a1electric.com/f150.htm , has a detailed install guide for an F-150, and it's very similiar to the install in an F-Body.
