  • What do you guys think about these?

Hey, I'm looking at getting a set of component speakers..

what do you guys think about these? any good/bad news on them? are they a good deal?

    They're DEI components.

    http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/DEI36065

If I were to get those components and get this sub:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2458157121

what amp should I get to power it all? how many channels what kinda wattage etc.?

would I need to get a new amp and a new Head Unit? I have the stock HU its a piece of junk i'm sure, but if i had a good amp, why would i need a better HU?

    i appreciate all the help.

    Tobes

This amp looks to have the power that you want: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/USAUSX4085 . Ask some other bord members including Matt (Freeser) and others on their thoughts too.

"Enclosure Volume: 6 cubic foot, sealed"

      Isn't that wrong?
I didn't know there was 6 cubic feet of room in our entire trunk, much less that little corner LOL

          Thanks Larry, :D

I have a lot of thoughts on this one. First of let me start with the components. The DEI's are 7" speakers and are gonna require some custom mounting, keep that in mind. I personally have never heard these components, but I did read from your sounddomain link that they have titanium dome tweeters. From my experience titanium dome tweeters are very harsh to your ears at high frequencies. My recommendation for components has and will be the CDT cl-61a off www.thezeb.com, until they go back to normal price. The performance of these components can't be matched for the price that they are offered at. However, I have heard some positive reviews on the DEI's, so it's up to you.

OK now on to the sub. I know of a lot of people that havge purchased the thunderform box and liked it. However, most of these people replaced the sub not long after they purchased it (due to blowing it, not enough bass, not enough sq, etc...). So my recommendation is to talk to Steve at subthump and get a stealth box from him. I believe that they go for $112 dollars and these boxes are much better quality IMO. To load the box I would go with either a an Alpine Type R, Elemental Designs 10k, or a JL 10w3v2, these can be found for a little over $100. The equipment that you have chosen is nice stuff but I always say do the job right the first time even if it costs a little extra, which your lokking at about 50 bucks extra for the comnponents and sub I was talking about.

As for your amp I would defiatly go with a four channel amp rated anywhere from 400 to 600 watts RMS. From that amp you could run your components from the front two channels and bridge the rears for the sub.

On to the HU, an aftermarket HU would definiatly be a good idea. Maybe a lower level Alpine or Pioneer.

Well let me know what you think.

btw: 6ft^3  thats huge, too bad its really .6ft^3 :D

          Matt

Thanks a lot for the help guys (especially Freeser) I think i'm going to get a pair of those CL-16's they look pretty nice. I'm concerned abotu the install though since i'm worried about screwing it up. I wonder if Circuit City would install them if I bought a HU and an amp from them. I'll have to call them and see.

As for the Sub, i'll just wait on that till later. go through Sub Thump and get his box.

Freeser, or whomever, forgive me for not knowing, but why do i need a new HU if i need an amp to power the speakers? will it make a difference? Logically it seems that an amp powers the speakers and the HU runs the amp, am I right? If thats the case, what difference does it make which HU i have? If you will, please explain why i need both?

                Thanks a lot

So i'm planning on ordering those CL-61a's and getting a 45-50w HU for now. And getting an amp later. I know that the speakers wont be used anywhere near full potential.. but i'm sure it'll be better than the stock Ac delco i have in there now. I'll buy a 400w 4-channel amp later and one of those alpine-r's later.

                  what does everyone think?
