I'm new to F-bodies and am trying to find best place to mount my V-1. Window mount in middle above dash is too far away. Any ideas?

Nah -- all stock. Besides, I'm an old fart and its hard to see at night with the tint. BTW, my car is a 2002, only had it for 2 mos.2002 Camaro Coupe
Navy Blue, A4, Y87
Whisper Lid, Raised Air Box
SLP Bow-Tie Grill, HPP3

I put mine on the drivers side, just to the right of where your tags go, about an inch off the dash. It works good, and looks better there.

I use the suction cups to mount mine above my mirror. It's out of the way, inconspicouous, and still works good up there. And the radar eye is just below the tinted stripe on the top of the windshield. I run the cable up from underneath and just have the wire stretched tight straight up... I don't want to hard-wire it in and run it above the headliner like someone previous mentioned becuase I take my detector out and use it in my truck in the winter time.

What circuit did you guys hardwire your detector into, I would like to do this if someone could help me out? I was thinking out doing it into the map light, but I would like it to turn on and off with the car like it would if I wired it into the radio.1996 Silver Camaro, Y87, M5, cammed..
N/A Best Time: 14.012 @ 98.59
195 rwhp / 233 ft-lbs b/f heads/cam
Check out my site http://silver3800.cz28.com/

All the detector needs is a +12V source and a Ground connection. You could with the ignition wire in the fuse box that only gets +12v when the key is turned on. I have it set up like that in my truck now and it works great and am going to do it in my car soon. In my '96, the IGN source is the top-right empty plug in the fuse box, but check your owners manual for what fuse does what, and you should see one that looks like half of a fuse slot labeled "IGN". I'm going to wire in a secondary cigarette lighter to that IGN slot, ground the wire behind the dash and have the detector plugged in behind the dash all out of sight, and it won't come on until the ignition is turned on so it will quit draining my battery and setting off my alarm by changes in current flow .
Good luck, and let me know!

I used a suction cup brackett also and mounted mine where the sensor and the led screen will hang just below the rearview mirror. It picks up excellent in both the front and the rear of the car
I also have my wire ran into the headliner , down the A pillar and under the dash. I do a lot of audio installs and found that the easiest way to connect to a source is use the ground and remote wire (12 volt switched) from your Radio.
I used the 12 volt switched b/c You can just leave the detector on all the time, and it will go off, when you cut your car off.1999 A4 Black Firebird
17 x 9.5 ROH ZS Wheels powdercoated Black
Wings West Front GFX, Y87 Sides and Rear
2000 SS leather Seats
Alpine HU, Kicker Mids and Highs Diamond 12\" subs, JBL600.1 amp, Epicenter
\"All Show, NO GO\" :(

Is the 12V switch you refer to the blue remote amp turn on or just the radio power wire from the car?
I would like to wire hot to the head unit mainly because I am very familiar with the head unit (as opposed to the IGN wires) and would rather the detector be mounted near the headliner rather than near the dash. I also plan on doing the cooling fan mod at the same time and will be pulling some wires throught the firewall.
Also, can I get a cheap power cord at radio shack so I don't have to hack up my good one so I can still move it from car to car.

Anyone else have problems with the suction cups not staying in place? Its rather annoying to have my radar detector falling off my windsheild every 10 seconds. You can use that one, it is basically the same thing and yes go with the radio shack plug, that is exactly what I did, b/c I sometime use the detector is my truck too, and Didn't want to cut into my plug either.

I've got mine just above the rearview mirror on the left side with the wire ran up in-under the headliner and down the A-pillar, then connected to an on/off switch under the dash next to my trunk release button. I love it!

I don't have one anymore, but used to. First one I put on the dash - but the sun / heat seemed to have hurt the circuitry and it quit working. The replacement was suction cupped above the morror with wires tucked out of sight around the windshield frame.I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
