• need help matching speakers to amp....

Im about to be purchasing 2 kicker cvr 12's (2003 model) but i dont know what ohm to get them in. The amp i will be hooking them to is a fosgate 700S. Whats stated on the box is that the amp puts out 350 watts rms x2 at 2ohms in stereo, which is how the subs will be ran since they are rated at 400 watts rms. I figure that will be a pretty good matchup. But do i need 2ohm speaker or 4ohm to get down to the 2ohm load the amp requires? They have dual voice coils incase yall didnt know.

    Thanks alot!

get DVC subs with 4 ohms, when you wire the coils in parallel, your amp will see 2 ohms.

Just stick both of your subs into a different input of the amp, and do it like that, you should be good to go.

I would get 2 - 4ohm DVC subs and wire the coils in series (each sub would be 8ohms) then wire each sub in parallel to each other....this will give you a 4ohm load. Then you can bridge it to your 2 channel amp and your amp will see a 2ohm load If you wire it up like stated above, your two subs would be playing stereo, in which -I- wouldn't want for subs....I would want my subs playing mono, and they will be when you bridge them

I see what your saying, but according to the specs of the amp it wont see the whole 700 watts rms if its at a 2ohm load bridged. If it was a 4ohm load brided then yes. I imagine with 2ohm load it would prolly see around 575 bridged? Where as in stereo with a 4ohm load i will see 375X2 rms which breaks down to about 187.5 rms per coil. The rms per coil is 200. I figured that running them in stereo with the 4ohm load would be my best bet. Thanks again for the input!

Uh...that doesnt make any sense. If you have a 4ohm load going to your amp, your are going to get twice as much with a 2ohm load. You might want to read the manual again...

Maybe i confused myself! Anyways....heres a link with some specs on the amp....

I still think i would be better off running in stereo...wouldnt that be more efficent?

Yes, Run them in stereo with a 4ohm DVC sub in parallel. This would drop you to 2 ohms per channel achieving 350wx2 at 2 ohms.
