  • Which HU?

    Hey,

    Which HU should I pick?

heres the pioneer i'm looking at

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....oryId=cat03066

    or the Alpine:

    http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...8&catoid=-8864

I'm putting in a pair of CDT CL-61a's 90w RMS

and I am going to get 1 10" sub probably alpine type E since i dont like the punch of type R. and 1 400-500W 4 channel amp.

    Which HU would be better?

    Thanks

    Tobes

I am guessing that money is an issue here. If you wanted a really good HU i'd save up a lil more and pick up an Eclipse 5423 at any TWEETER for $280. Both of those HU's are their companies entry level HU's. Neither one is really going to make those CL'61s sound great. If i HAD TO CHOOSE between those two, i'd probably get the Alpine.

Tobes, I saw in another post that you were figuring to get 45-50 watts from your HU. That's MAX power. You should look at the RMS rating. Of the two head units u picked out, the pioneer was 22, and the alpine 23. Those CL-61s can handle 90W RMS, so if you REALLY wanted to, a nice 50x2 or 75x2 amp would be beautiful.

Let me add a few things to what Larry said. The four channel amp will work out real nice to power both the type e and the cl-61a's. Personally I would go with 400 watts (200 to the type e and 100x2 to the components).

As for the HU, the eclipse that Larry is talking about is definiatly a nice HU. I would also look into the Alpine 9811 and the Pioneer 6500/7500, these can be found on ebay for a touch over $200.

I too would choose the Alpine out of the two referred though.

            Hey,

Thanks for the input. Maybe this will seem stupid.. but, i am going to get an amp for the speakers later on.. i understand that a 50w hu wont power those speakers anywhere near where they should be.. but what actual difference is there between Alpine that I was looking at and the Alpine 9811 considering i am going to amplify it? I dont care about looks or any of the flash. I'd just like to understand why the 9811 is such a better HU?

            Thanks a lot

ok here is what you do first go look on www.ikesound.com for a good hu and maybe speakers and subs. then go to www.thezeb.com to look for the same. now here is where i will differ from a lot of guys on this site, go to ebay and search for a Xtant 603xr. this amp is the best for what i think you are trying to do. it does 75x2 at 4ohms + 300x1 at 2ohms. so in my opinion get a decent alpine hu, they tend to be better than pioneer in my opinion, get an infinity kappa sub and get either infinity reference or kappa components from one of the two sites i talked about above and you will be good to go. hope i gave you a little help.

Well the 9811 has a built in EQ for better control of imaging. Also the 9811 comes with 4 volt pre-amp outputs which will send a better signal to your amplifier. Last the 9811 is mp3 and xm tuner for increased media options.

Do you mean the DVC perfect? Yes, they are nice subs, but the perfect may be a little more punchy for his tastes if he prefers a type e over a type r. However if he is lookin at a different sub I would go with a ED 10k over a perfect.

                    Awesome, Thanks a lot freeser.

I know what better to look for now. Would the ALpine 9811 be better than the Eclipse 5423? I noticed that the eclipse has a 5 volt output so i'm guessing that means better quality. My only concern is buying stuff online and not having a way to get it installed since I dont know how to do it myself.

                    THanks

The 9811 includes three sets of 4V pre-outs, plays MP3/CD-RW, and has 4-channel time correction. A feature I think the Eclipse is missing.

Next, 4V RCAs vs. 5V RCAs. Yes, the higher the voltage the better, but that wouldn't be enough for me to choose the Eclipse over the 9811. Unless you are having induced noise issues, your RCA voltage doesn't matter. 4V is usually fine.

And last, don't worry about installation. That's why we're here! We'll help you every step of the way if need be. Start be reading our link in the modification section. (link at top of forum)

i was just talkin about the standard kappa series, i think they come in dvc, but yeah if the r is more punch than he wants the ED would be the way to go. if he doesnt want punch maybe one 15" sub would be the way to go then?

It might be harder at first, but you'll be better off learning how to do it yourself. I did my speakers myself even though I could have saved time and had the front ones installed for $16. (I work at Circuit City so installs are half price.) They probably would have done a good job and I know the people in the Roadshop, but I still feel better doing it myself knowing I didn't break anything like a clip or screw anything up.

The day we were doing my speakers my friend happened to get his replaced at a local "reputable" stereo shop. They screwed up his locks and had to fix them, and they got the inside of the car dirty. We did a better job figuring mine out on our own then they did replacing his and they're supposed to be "professionals."
