I just installed a Clarion DXZ-725 head unit and I used these crimp things to connect the whires of the harness to the factory wires. I can hear a very wierd whine, and it flutters when I adjust my volume but it stays at a certain pitch when I leave it alone. Could this be caused from a bad ground? If so, can I fix it by just connecting the ground from the harness to something else rather than the factory ground wire?
Or maybe even soldering the harness ground to the factory wire and not use the crimps at all.
do you have an amplifier as well? sounds like engine noise. Was your speaker harness already cut and thats why you didnt use a harness adapter? you could try running a new ground, just try to keep the ground wire as short as possible but a good ground.

Yea, if you have an amp, i can give you a few tips on getting rid of the alt. whine....
If its just the head unit, here is what you can do. Use a slightly larger gauge ground and run it to a real good ground spot (a multimeter helps with this). You can also wrap your ground wire in aluminum foil. That helps keep the interference out.
I forgot to put that this whine happens when the car is off as well. So I know it's not engine noise. I think I'm just going to try to make a new ground somewhere esle. Thanks for the tips.
You could try grounding it on the chassis, or the negative battery.
If all else fails, take it back and exchange it! Could be defective.
EDIT: Come to think of it, try checking your grounding points under the hood. This might sound weird, but I had this weird prob two days ago... my left headlight and my left turn signal was faded, leaving me thinking I had a major electrical problem... but after fiddling and looking really good, I noticed the ground in the right side(driver side) was rusty. I changed it and tightened it, and voila.
The moral of the story is grounding problems is a pain in the A! It might not fix it, but keeping grounding points may prevent weird problems.
Yea, I tried regrounding the wire to a place under the driver's side kick panel. It still did it which leaves me to believe that it's the harness. I noticed that the ground is kind of loose when it connects to the harness so I'm hoping that's what it is. I'm gonna go to downtown LA and pick up a new one. Does anyone know how much hanresses cost?

So I exchanged units thinking it was the internal amplifire (after fixing the harness). I now realize that it's my god damn speakers! For some reason, when the mid range is turne up on the head unit, the whine is there but when the mid range is all the way down, there is no whine at all. Does anyone know why this is? I'm going to get new speakers soon anyway, but I just wanted to know why the hell this is happening.
Also, Does anyone know anything about Planet Audio? I can get a pair of the Vortex series speakers for $70...
Hold on how do you know it's your speakers. You said that you put in your deck and then started hearing the whine, maybe you got a bad deck? As for the speakers i have never heard planet audio, I'm sure that everyone will chime in with "get some infinities". This time I will have to agree with them though cause in that price range ($70-90) Infinities would suit you well.

Well that's the thing, I got a new deck and it still does it. What series of infinity? I'd honestly rather buy MB Quart than Infinity. What about Kenwood?
Okay, couple of questions. One, when I turn the Balance all the way to the left or to the right and fade it to the rear, higher frequencies come through on the opposite side and it's very distorted when it does... Also, can anyone tell me where I can find what the stock wires are (what color is what ex. front right negative etc.)
Nevermind about the wire color, I never notice the Mod Encyclopedia... it's ****in awesome!
