Who here has ever competed in IASCA SQ or SQ+? Does anyone think that just because a speaker says Alpine that it's going to make your stereo that much cooler than someone with some pioneer speakers? I have a Solobaric in my ride, but doesn't sound any different than the Pyramid 12 that I used before. Paper is the poorest material that can be used. It is easily punctured, and flexes at high excursion. And please, tell me which 'big' speaker companies use paper cones? I'm an MECP certified installer. Don't tell me what's up. There are also other ways to use a sub. Free air and bandpass boxes. 2 12's in a properly built bandpass will make more spl at the same power than to 12's in a sealed box. The only reason sealed boxes are so popular is because they are so much smaller than a bandpass. Smaller boxes require more power. Means bigger amp. But, you have no money left after buying your W7's or L7's Alpine Type R's. Time to go to Wal-Mart for that *****in Road Gear amp 'cause that's all that you can afford after blowing your money on some huge *** speakers. **** you.

Ok, since you question the integrity of this board, take your claims over to fbodyaudio where Mike (DJSexay) is a frequent competitor in IASCA SQ competitions. The reason that sealed boxes are used more than bandpass boxes is not because they are smaller, it is because they yield a flatter overall response. As for the subs that you are comparing, they are both spl subs therefore making your comparison irrelevant. Also have a look at the original post, Shaun states that he's looking for an spl sub so this discussion of sound quality in subs is irrelevant to the post.

p.s. L7's and Alpine type r's are not THAT expensive

An ideal cone needs to be light, durable, rigid and resistant to all resonances. The paper cone is just that. Inch for inch, paper is the strongest material you can get for the weight. Sure aluminum and titanium cones are great, but they are usually heavy and are prone to resonance. Paper is extremely resistant to these odd resonances. So for some applications, Alum or TI might be good choices. But NONE have the rigidity per weight that paper pulp and paper composite cones have. Not Polypropylene, not aluminum, not even titanium. I think the JBL GTI series uses paper cones. Many believe it to be equal to the JL Audio W7.
As far as surrounds go, foam is NOT any worse then rubber. Back in the day rubber lasted longer than foam, but times have changed. Foam surrounds now have pressed multiple layers that are formulated completely different then in the past. Now foam lasts nearly as long as rubber. In high excursion applications foam is better at keeping the coil centered, is resistant to puckering, and is less prone to voice coil rock. When you have a high excursion sub it is extremely important to have a linear stroke because of scraping issues. That is the reason that foam is the surround of choice on most high end, high excursion woofers of the day. The Adire Audio Brahma and the Treo CSX use BOTH paper cones and foam surrounds. This may be my opinion, but the Brahma is in the top hand full of all time greatest SQ subs…..and wait…it has 28mm one-way Xmax to boot! :D If your Pyramid sounded the same as your Kicker, then why did you switch? Why aren't all subs the same? Why buy a single W7 for $600 when I can get 8 Rockwood subs for $50?

Sadly enough, that doesn't mean much these days. Anyone can take the practice exam online, then go to one of about a million local places and easily pass. Not trying to put you down, but it's become too easy. And that's a whole nother topic. ;)

The bandpass will no doubt be louder, but only through a very narrow range of frequencies. For a daily driver, I STRONGLY advise against a bandpass design.

Then that pair of 12" L7's powered off the BP1200.1 is a good choice. Connect with a quality box and you should have no troubles with being loud. [img]smile.gif[/img] Maybe Mega could hook you up with a dual 15" L7 box? hehehe :D
What do you mean by block out all of the music? You mean will it drown out the sound coming from your 6 1/2"s?

I think im gonna go with 2 12 Solo Baric L7's witha JBL 1200 amp. I would also be using Subthumps T-Top box.

With this setup the max wattage i could put to each sub with that amp is 600 right? The rms is 750 so if im correct about the 600 to each sub is 150 more watts that much of a difference?

Also if i do go this setup is it possible to have the system going without the car running? I know my cousin drained his battery because he was sitting in parkin lot bassin.

Here's a rule of thumb. You have to double power to add 3dbs. Therefore you would have to go from 600 to 1200 to gain 3 dbs. So you are not loosing that much performance. I wouldn't reccomend playing your system without your car on because it takes a toll on the charging system. If you really want to I would highly reccomend getting a Optima yellow top battery. All in all it sounds like a really sweet setup, keep us posted on how it sounds.

600WRMS to each L7 sounds great. Get the dual 2 ohm version of the L7's. Wire them in a series/parallel config to give the amp a final load of 2 ohms. If you are going to be playing the system a lot with the car off, a yellow top is a must.
