ok crazy idea, what happens if we could put in a capacitor from our batt to the main power thingy (lol like from the batt to all of the cars elec sh!t) would that work?

BTW Im only running 300 watts on component speakers aside what the radio puts out (200wts) total=500. Once I hit the brakes, usually noticable at 30mph until a complete stop, I have to rev the car back up to the normal wattage if not it stutters. I was thinking about what viper said can it be the pulley on the alternator? Dunno.

Oh yeah the cap idea, sounds kinda dangerous imho.

There should be no need to add any cap anywhere. This problem should not be happening. And I'm CONVINCED it's not the stereo. My problem continues if the stereo isin't pumpin any bass or isin't even on. And the power steering thing has happened to me too kamaro, but only at very slow speeds. Like under 5mph. Again, slow RPMS, which points to idle output of alternator.....but I've tried 4 different ones including the stock alt. It's not the alt. or the stereo. Battery Tues night for me. We'll see if it fixes my problem. :(

when did this problem start? (when the car was new, how many years old, after installing a mod or stereo) this really makes no cents at all. Have you tryed upgrading the wire that runs from the batt over to fuses?
96firebird311 did you replace the alt or the voltage reg. or both

I've replaced everything in the charging system multiple times (for different reasons) except the battery. Problem started by itself. No changes made to the audio or mechanical system. I've swapped the alt/voltage reg out with several others, including brand new ones....no change at all. I haven't even turned my stereo on too much in the past month. It's not the stereo. My problem has got to be a battery. (fingers crossed) But the fact the kamaro bought a battery and there was no change....not only has me worried, but completely puzzeled. If the battery doesn't fix mine either, I'm gonna move this topic over to the general section and see if we can't get a little more help.

im not talking about the *big three" im talking about the the red wire that runs from the batt across the fans and then to the the fuse box under the hood.
a voltage reg is the black box on the back of the alt, it regulates the voltage coming out so you dont fry anything, alot of times when your alt goes its realy that the voltage reg died.
also kamaro when you tested your batt did you test your alt?

New voltage reg comes with the new alt. ;) Anyhow, after work today, I go out to my car and had a friend ready to jump me. But I decide to try it anyway. Fired right up. WTF? Well, I have since started the car two more times since then....WTF? Got a red top anyway, but haven't put it in. Kinda waiting for it to be dead in the morning....

i was doing a search and came across this in gen tech
                          http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ulti...c;f=1;t=011541
looks like cassie had kinda the same prob,
Well, I had a *similar* problem. My car's battery gauge would fluctuate a lot while I was driving and when I came to a stop, especially. It stalled out on me a few times too. I replaced my alternator, checked my battery and all was fine. Then, about 5 days ago we replaced my MAFsensor, and I haven't even seen the SLIGHTEST fluctuation since."
could it be the MAF sensor?????, i was reading the article more and what is the correct rpm idle at? i idle at 600rpms
and do i need to replace my volt reg if i got a HO alt??? i didnt get one with my new HO alt

ok, I dunno if someone has posted this yet or not. very long thred didn't feel like reading all the post, but here is what I have to say.

Have you tryed checking the regulator? or reflector? these are parts of the charging system that decide how much, if any of the voltage from the alt. can be send to the bat. Also check your charging wire from you alt. lots of times these wires are far too small, and if you have upgraded your alt. to 180 amp, then this wire is too small for sure.

again, sorry if someone posted this already, just trying to help out

where is the reg and ref? and how do u test them?, right now me and 96 both have HO alts and im in the process of upgrading all the wire to 1/0g.

MAF? That's extremely odd. syntax_erorr, our voltage regulators are actually on the back of the alt. I have never seen an alt for our cars that didn't came with a new voltage reg. And I've had 1/0awg running from alt to batt for over a year. I've swapped my alt out with three others, including the stock alt. EXACTLY the same symptoms. Kamaro, the voltage reg is ON the back on the alt. (Black plastic area)
