Does anyone know what the wiring scheme(i.e. speaker outputs, etc.) for the Bose system in the 96 camaro's? I am wanting to remove the rear sub, but not lose the functionality of the two rear speakers. I did a search and found nothing regarding the actual wiring. I want to remove the factory sub because it takes up space and my aftermarket one sounds better. Also i want to put my amp where the sub is now. Thanks. [img]graemlins/burnout.gif[/img]

Why don't you just take out the sub? If there is a plastic connector that hooks up the wires, just unplug that. If it is just hooked up by plain wires cut them so there is no metal exposed and secure them somewhere. That should be all you need to do. I don't see how you would cut out your rear speakers by unhooking the sub.

Did the 96 Bose system have 5 speakers, or 3 like the earlier versions? Does it have amps at each speaker, or is there a single central unit? I know on my 94, 3 speaker setup with amps at each speaker, that I can unplug and remove the "sub" without any effect on the front speakers. But I don't know if the 5 speaker setup has the rear speakers tied to the sub. If it is like mine, there should be a connecter with no need to cut wires if you are going to remove it. There should be 3 bolts holding the enclosure.

Okay here's what the deal is.
I currently have the sub itself unhooked. HOWEVER! the way that the system is setup is this:
The two front speakers and the sub come directly from the HU. the two rear speakers come from the sub. I took apart the sub box to find out what the deal was. I found out that the speakers are powered by an external amp in the sub box. The sub is also powered from this amp. I unhooked the sub so now it is just sitting there taking up space, but when i unhooked the plastic connectors on the outside of the box, then i lost the sub AND both rear speakers. Don't ask me why they set it up that way, they just did.
I don't know if there is a way to remove it or just say screw it and get a whole new system. my dad thinks i'm stupid because i guess Bose is one of the best stereos? i dunno.

Bose does make some good stereos, but they have nothing in common with the one in your car (other than the name).
1. You could remove the amp from the factory sub box.
2. Just screw the rear channel.
3. Get another amp or replace your sub amp with one that can accommodate your year speakers.
4. Replace the entire system.
The rear channel isn't that important so if you are going to power any of your speakers with an aftermarket amp, it should be the front ones. And if your going to get an aftermarket amp, you may as well replace the speakers. So basically, I say screw it, and replace the whole thing.

I just ditched all that Bose crap for aftermaket stuff. All 3 speakers were going on me. I have 2 120 watt Jensen 6.5's up front (the built in tweeter it sweet) and to RF subs in back. It sounds really good and rich and all that. But to answer your question if it's like the 93 3-speaker set up there should be an individual amp on the speakers and all the wiring is connected in the back of the head unit. The sub in back just unhooks from the harness with no problems.
edit: The wires going out of the head unit are marked front left, front right, ect.

If i were to rip everything out and get ALL new stuff, would i be better off ripping out the wiring harness too? i was thinking that i could get a wiring harness from a camaro without the Bose system and use it instead of what i have now. That way everything is already wired and all i have to do is plug in the speakers and such. is that too much to even bother with?

I don't know about ripping the entire wiring out, aftermarket speakers hook up to the factory amps with little problem (just cutting and crimping new connectors). And you can hook the subs to the wiring for the stock sub if you still have the stock HU, if not using the stock HU, RCA cables would be best.
