• switching 2-12" for 1-10"

hey,
i wanted to get rid of my 2 12" rockford hx2's for one 10" woofer, here are my reasons:

the box and 2 subs weigh too much
i have no storage room
the 2 12's are more than i need

but heres the problem... i dont want to have to buy a new amp, i have the rockford bd1000, and i dont know of a sub that is 10" thatn can handle 1000 watts and that can fit in the side enclosure. ive been out of the audio gam,e for awhile so i was hopin you guys could help me out. i ve been hearing good things about this jl w7, but according to jl 1000 watts is too much for the 10" :(

elimental design 10a 1300 peak, inifnity 10.1d/10.1dvq 1400/1600 peak and alot more
btw you dont have to use that amp at max power you can turn down the gain, so you could use an jl10w7

Well the JL 10w7 will handle 1000 watts like a champ, but I also would keep it around 800 or so just to be safe. JL underrates their speakers qutie a bit. I'd say if you can afford a w7 it is definiatly one of the top drivers on the market.

Such an awesome woofer, I must admit. Although I have seen one install with a 10w7 in a drivers side stealth, but if you have t-tops it won work. It sticks out nearly 2".

Here's a great place to start comparing power handling capabilities: Link

One of these days, I'll make the entries sortable, like a spreadsheet. I just lost my enthusiasm.

Edit: Sorted by diameter|RMS Handling just for you.

Not really, a 10w7 will handle 1000 watts like a champ. Hell a 10w7 could take 1500-2000 watts and still be fine. They did a test with a 12w7 and fed it 30000 watt (not a typo) for a few burps and it didn't blow. The w7's are meant to handle a lot of abuse. Keep an eye out, I got my buddy one of them for 285+shipping used for two months.
