I just checked the codes on the door of the car and I didn't find the code "UNO" which according to the database is the code that identifies that the car came with the Monsson HU. Still, my HU says Monsson and so far I haven't been able to find the amp on the back.
Can anybody explain this for me please?
Are you the first owner? Maybe a previous owner swapped in a monsoon HU. I think it can run without the amp. Even in monsoon equipped cars, I know at least the two front speakers are powered from the HU.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?
Look on the drivers door again and see if you see any of the following codes: W54-10-speaker Entertainment System, Cassette, w/ External Delco Amp W55-10-speaker Entertainment System, CD-Player, w/ External Delco Amp U1T- Standard single CD-Player w/AM-FM stereo, w/HPS U1C- Standard single CD-Player w/AM-FM stereo. U1A- Single CD-Player w/ 10-speakers (no external amp) UU8- Cassette Player w/AM-FM Stereo, w/HPS UN6- Cassette player w/AM-FM Stereo

The amp is mounted way back in the hatch on the passenger side tucked behind where the spare tire is. Remove the spare tire and look for a black plastic plate tucked inside the rear fender area. There should also be a very thick wiring harness full of wires and a huge plug that plugs into the amp...see picture bellow:
Well, I checked the codes again and I found the W55 (10-speaker Entertainment System, CD-Player, w/External Delco Amp.) I wonder what's the difference between this and the Monsoon code. Like I said my HU says "Monsoon". They seem to be basically the same. Anyone?
Also, I will look for the amp tomorrow. It's got to be there somewhere now that I know there is in fact one.
Thanks for your help.
p.s. I knew my stereo had to be the Monsoon kind. It sounds really good. They did a great job putting together that sound system. Still, an upgrade wouldn't hurt.

Not sure why GM did it that way either, I have the W55, too. From what I understand, everything is the same as a Monsoon but instead of saying "Monsoon" it just says AC/Delco on the amp and speakers.
