Is the 2001 Monsoon system found in my Camaro made by BOSE? Has anyone changed the head unit and left the speakers? Thanks.

No, monsoons are not made by bose.. its made by "monsoon and gm" its really more a name then anything signifigant..

you can replace the HU w/o replacing the speakers.. i reccomend both.. however i would also rewire all the speakers if you get a new HU..
becuase otherwise you will be running the hu's stronger signals though the stock amp.. and well it can give you some funny results or even break your hu or the factory amp.. it will "work", its just not a good idea.. and it typically sounds better if you rewire..

I highly recommend replacing both. The so called 500W Monsoon system is the same as my 200W Monsoon system with higher rated speakers. The 500W comes from the total max watts the speakers can handle. Not the amount the amp can put out. Very deceptive. Did you know when you by a HU that says 50Wx4, that means a total of 50W max split into 4 channels. So more like 25W split into 4 which is about 8 watts a piece. Nice huh...even a cheap amp makes it sound a ton better. I recommend a HU, Amp and new speakers. Oh..don't bother replacing the 4" speakers in the hatch...not worth it...can't tell a difference when they are in.
