I swapped the screen but apparently that's not where mileage is stored :( Anyone do this successfully?

What screen did you swap? Was it the little LCD screen where the milage is displayed? I swapped a 97z28 cluster into my 97rs, and swapped a 98z28 lcd screen/chip into the 97z28 cluster, and it worked perfectly.
