• your first system... POS or Quality?

So how many of you remember turning sixteen and scraping enough money together to afford a little bit of thump? Aside from being flat broke, I didn't have a clue how audio systems worked.

Anyway, who had a most craptastic aftermarket setup to start out with?

I had:
- two used 10" Pyle subs -- mounted in ported truck wedge boxes. the boxes had pezio horns, but nothing was crossed over!
- A 100x2 Profile amp with an alligator on it
- and a speaker level -> line level reducer signaling the amp because my head unit had no sub out.

Who can beat that?

hah. all i did was put a jvc head unit in my 88 ford escort, with the half-working paper speakers that came with the car
must have been a whole 9 watts of power :D

A single 10" hollywood old school sub from like 1902 in a dual 10 bandpass box powered by a GHETTO jensen amp (I still have it lol).

my first system went into my 86 IROC Z

System consisted of a custom box that i built in the back

(2) 12'' 500 RMS kenwood subs
a pair of 6x9 infinity reference speakers
and a set of 4x6 infinity reference for the front

Highs and mids pushed by a sony 2 ch

And the subs pushed by a huge boss amp i had.

2 12" Jensen 1,200 watts on an enclosed box, 800 watt Profile amp, 200 watt Jensen cd player and some prestige component speakers, not bad for a first system at 15 I was really thumpin, I then moved on to use all Audiobahn.

2 12" JL W6's in a custom box, being pushed by a PPI 600 Amp, and Phoneix Gold line driver with a Pioneer (can't remember the model#) head unit. The components were JL's also.

Damn, that sounds like my first setup. My first system was 1994 in my 88 Beretta. I had a sony deck and 10 disk CD changer. This was way before their explode stuff came out. The HU was mediocre, but the changer was actually very nice and hardly ever skipped. I had two Profile California Amps. One was 100x2 and the other was 50x4 pushing some blaupunkt 6x9s and two 10" Pyle subs in truck-style boxes. Needless to say, it wasn't too impressive.

Nowadays you just go to a board like this and the members tell ya what to get and most importantly what NOT to get. Live and learn.

For a lot of the guys I deal with--this is their "first system" So it's nice to get them headed in the right direction with good gear--rather than buying junk and having to replace it all the time like we did way back when. A nice sub box helps too . That's part of the reason I do what I do

My friend had a chevette with a no-name radio wired up to two house speakers in the trunk. I think that might actually win this one.
I started out with a JVC head unit, Infinity 6*9's and 6's, with 2 12" JBL's pushing 500 RMS and a Boss amp in my 91 Camry. Loved hearing that trunk rattle.

my first was the $30 dual 8" subs in a truck box from summit and a $100 300watt  Jensen amp w/a Sparkomatic tape player...sounded like straight up ****....then i bought a 10" JBL GT sub and it still sounded like ****, then i bought a 180watt Phoenix Gold amp and that made me see the light...the 180 watt amp sounded 10x better than that Jensen POS....

I started with a head unit and a used and almost blown fosgate kicker, it sounded good loud but like crap at low volume. Anyways now i've moved up and have 2 10" Eclipse's with a 1200 Watt Eclipse amp with digital crossovers and a pre-amp. I have boston acoustics in doors and back and am running it from a Pyle Dvd player w/ LCD screen. Its pretty hooked up and sounds awosome. I recomend Eclipse to anyone.
