First off, I did a search....came up with nutting!

I got my milhouse box, which I love. I had planned to use Alpine Type R subs, and an Alpine amp...still do, jsut dont have the moeny for it this year. So, my friend has a 800watt Sony amp, only a month old hes gonna practically give me it. So I thought I would get 2 new 10" Sony subs...the pentagon shaped ones, a friend has them in a 85 firebird, in a crappy box with a old 300 watt rockford amp and it sounds awesome.

Does anybody run this setup or something like it in thier car? I know people say sony is ****, but I have had good luck with it in the past. I am not expecting to win any sound offs, but I am wondering how well it will pound, and would also like some pretty decent sound quality

Any opinions?

p.s. I have a 96 Camaro, with a KenwoodExcelon MP3 player as the only current audio mod

I had 2 Sony aluminum cone 12's (aluminum cone being Sony's better type). They sounded great in my opinion but they blew within 6 months. I'd say go with something different.

I have two sony xplods in my millhouse box and they sound great. I have pics on my site. They aren't the pentagon shaped ones, but last years round ones, but they are practically the same. I really am pleased with mine

ya, I have heard quality complaints, but I am gonna buy them from future shop with their warrenty, they replace em no questions asked for up to 4 years.

I had read plenty of bad things about last years round ones, but lots of good things about this years model. Kinda curious as to what they are like in our particualr vehicles

thanks for the comments so far

Why not get the almost free amp from your friend and then just buy the Type-R's now. Power them off the Sony amp until you can afford the Alpine amp. Saves money in the long run and no Sony worries.

would like to do that, but I can get 2 sonys for 150 bucks, or I could get 2 type r's for 600...and yes...this is Canadian prices, I jsut dont have that kind of money, nor will I in the future, till I get the car paid for. There is only one shop around here that sells alpine, and they offer no sales. Future Shop has a deal where you buy one get one half price, they sell Sony, Pioneer, Rockford Fosgate, MTX.

Ok, time for my opinion :D
Have you looked into the Fosgates or mtx's at the future shop? How much would a set of those run you? I personally have never dealt with sony equipment and probly never will unless its the old school equipment. Anyway you have heard them and you like the sound then more power to you. I mean who really cares what everone else thinks, your the person thats is going to be listening to it day in and day out. I would have a look at the fosgate and mtx gear though.

p.s. Killer box man. I know a guy that has one just like it. Wait. IT'S ME.

haha, ya they are damn fine boxes

You are right though I may check out the other brands, depends on how much cash I got at the time, which will be towards the end of april when I need them.

I guess now I am kinda wondering about the amp, my friend never used it becasue the car he had for it, sorta did sommersaults through a corn field. So, will the amp make 2 10" Rockfords pound? Its a 800watt sony by the way

i woulnt touch a sony speaker or sub, the amps are pretty decent in my opinion. i would tell you to buy something different, maybe some infinity reference or kappa subs. they are hells cheap at ikesound. just my opinion do what you want but its not always best to stick with one brand (though the alpine setup would kick major arse). good luck.

are you looking for more sq or spl. if you are more of an sq guy i would say get infinity kappa perfects over the type r's but they aint bad either. if you want to stick with one brand alpine is one of the best, imho. what kind of hu do you have (alpine rules in that department). well good luck with getting your system together but look into infinity.
