  • Cluster swap questions

I've just purchased a 97 Firebird w/3.8L V6 and wanted to put in the V8 cluster (they both have digital odometers). I was reading the FSM and in there they talk about the difference between the V6 and the V8 in the reading when the cal/test signal is applied between the two clusters. Apparently the tach reads 25% higher on the V8 cluster then the V6 based on this and some comments from other forums. Has anyone ever tried to correct this in their cluster (I.E. chip swap on the circuit board between the V6 and V8) and if so what was the result? Also will the oil pressure gauge read correctly between the two clusters (120 PSI FS in the V6 vs. 80 PSI FS in the V8)??

    Laters!

Should've mentioned, I've already got a pristine 155 MPH cluster purchased.... and I hate to start swapping chips from one to the other without knowing it will work, especially since the chips are all soldered to the board.

all you do is grab the tach signal before it gets to the dash and splice this unit in between.
