• Who makes a good alternator?

    yes, I did search

I saw a lot of posts about alterstart and checked out their website.. they have some decent prices. Right now my stereo is like 300 watts and I have a 1 farrad cap, so I don't think its drawing too much power. My battery gauge hardly ever drops into the red when the bass is hitting its hardest.

So... I just want a better alternator. I have been through 4 or 5 AC Delco alternators, I am tired of them. They're supposed to be good alternators, I think its 120 amps, but they just die on me.

What I am looking for is a good name brand and hopefully a lifetime warrenty. The only name I have found so far is alterstart, so are there any other ones? That aren't rediculously expensive?

You should have no need for a H/O alt. Running anything else besides the amp? Something else is drawing a major load...

    I ran a Rockford bd1000a1 (1000WRMSx1@2ohms) and 800a4 (200WRMSx4@2ohms) off 2 farads and stock alt for 3 years. Never a single problem.

Yeah man, you have a problem somewhere else thats causing you to eat alts. I wouldn't replace it until you figure out the problem or you are just going to burn up a h/o alt to.

I think I had some bad luck with a couple of them.. they were dead within a year. I had the first one (the one on the car when I bought it) for about 2 years, but it died when I had to jump on the brakes real hard.. my battery voltage dropped and alternator died, it was weird. Had to replace them both. Second and third time they just weren't putting out much of a charge. My dad tested them on his volt meter and they weren't really charging very well, so I got them replaced under the 1 year warrenty. The one in there right now has lasted a over a year, the fan is just starting to make noise so I'm looking into replacing it so I am prepared when it finally quits on me.

I don't need a h/o one right now, but I will be getting rid of this system eventually so if it has a lifetime warrenty, why not? I want to get a 13w7 or 2 after I finish school and start working I'm sure they might need a little more juice hehehe

I just want some other brands besides AC Delco because I've had such bad luck with them.

As far as something else that is eating alts... I dunno. I keep bulbs replaced with the right bulbs and whatnot... I don't know what kind of problem there could be. My dad tests the alternators with his volt meter when I think there is a problem but, so far, this one has worked great, the fan just makes a grinding/rattling type noise that annoys the crap out of me.
